I would NEVER even think about it and i hope the club feels the same way but if it had to be done what kind of quality would we expect in return..he's one of the top midfielders in the game, already a 100+ game player, a captain and 3 time AA...who would you expect in return?

I don't think it is possible to name a "worthy" trade. Considerng how much Hawthorn got for Croad, I would say #1 draft pick and a quality player (I.e. B.Holland or Headland or Lockyer).

Though that would be really unfair to the eagles as Cousins is a guaranteed star, regardless of which team he plays in. Whilst #1 pick is a risk and the quality player would not be of "star" quality but rather a support role (like Morrison).

I think this question could be best answered by supporters from other teams. They could tell us what they realistically would be willing to give, rather then us eagles supporters who will ask for "lloyd, Bell, Ottens, Voss and McLoed + #1 pick".

For a player like Cousins draft picks are stupid. A fair swap would be for another top line player or maybe 2 medium range players.... difficult one to consider

personally i don't think we could get an even swap. Not saying he's the best player in the AFL, but no other player would have the pride in the jumper which gives you that little bit more. He also wouldn't be as good elsewhere, he was born and bred in WA.

Heya to all! Im back again!
Been very busy flat hunting today - so i'm very tired - found a few nice places so fingers crossed.

Very good thread topic to start - Jod 23 - at least it gives us something worthwhile to debate/discuss during the off season - I have noticed a lot of crappy threads on the boards - but it's good to see a worthwhile thread posted so congratulations! :)

Totally agree with you -Eagles Kick Ass - re: your point that Ben was born & bred in W..A and no one could nor would come close to replacing the passion he has for footy and indeed his team.

On the other hand - hyperthetically if we were to trade him we would probably be looking at a replacement that is from his league of stars - someone who consistently plays his high standard of footy etc - which taking into consideration the above mentioned requirements and various others - leads to the simple conclusion - that there is only one Ben Cousins - if there were two - then a trade might be considered.

Confusing - hey?? I think!

Anyway Cya all lata!

I think draft picks would be out of the question...Cousins is a guaranteed star wherever he goes but a number 1 pick is a risk that sometimes doesnt pay off. Its all good and well to trade a player like Croad who is a middle of the road player possible of becoming a star but also possible of becoming a nothing..but Cuz is different.

I can only think of Ottens as a fair trade, Richmond dont have the best midfield and although Richmond wouldnt do it as we all know the rule of quality talls are better than quality smalls. Therefore not many clubs would consider giving up quality bigmen, so that leaves other midfielders, McLeod, Buckley, Voss, i wouldnt trade Cuz for any of them simply because Cousins has years on them.

So i think it becomes clear that Cousins is untradable!

Im pretty happy with that :D

Clubs just don't trade their champions, unless it's in the twilight of their careers to get a bit of cash in the bank from the Sydney Swans or a return home after a long and successful interstate career.

Carey, Hird, Bradley, Silvagni, Harvey, the list is endless. Even the cash-strapped Bulldogs have kept Grant.

Cousins is and always will be an Eagle.

Hear Hear!

Ben Cousins = Untradable / Untouchables

Cousins is untouchable.

Apart from the fact that he pretty much held the team together this season, I also look at it from another angle. As a club WC need to have 'profile' players like him for young fans to look up to and want to be like. We need stand out guys that make people proud to be WC supporters and create some passion about the club.

You used to go to a game and see kids/people around the ground with an assortment of players numbers on the backs of their jumpers - 17,3,24,1,2 etc etc. Now all I see is 9, and the odd old faded 27.. Of course, this year, I expect there'll be a few more with 40... ;)

A few years ago even my non-Eagle friends , could name many of our top 22, now those same people would battle to name 10. We just don't seem to have the players that create the same sort of attention. Of course, not being on top probably contributes to that

I don't know that this has all actually come out as I wanted it to, but I know what I mean anyway... :)

I agree, even though i want Cuz at the club because he's a legend, a hero, a champion and all the rest of it we also need him at the club for his star status. Every club needs stars, thats what brings ppl to games. Hopefully in the next few years we will start to see more numbers in the crown instead of 9.
