Ever seen the Japanese film The Ring? Scary freakin' thing.

No a don't like watching scary films i've heard they give people bad nightmares!

I'm more in to old classic type films...a lot of my mates find my film selection boring and tell me to keep up with the times!

I take Toy and Gram

You seriously would take Gram? He isn't in a great head space atm and is an old player who has been one of the most overrated players on St. Kilda's list for a long time. He is a long kick but hardly ever hits the target. Defensive work and 1 on 1 contesting is very weak. My best mate who is a mad saints fan has never understood why so many people think he is a good player and a good kick. If the HFC actually picked Gram up I would be in total shock and very disappointed.

Agreed... totally overrated downhill skier

I don't know much about him, but his size suggests he could be a succession plan for Lake. What is he like as a player?

6' 5" in the old scale.

and talented..And turns 23 on December.

Hes worth is in the hope his attitude might change....Some say they are far from convinced he's not good enough. And also believe that he could be ahead of Astbury probably equal with Griffiths..
Post was only a handful of games away from playing really good footy.
This is all second hand info!

He hasn't been delisted though. Or has he? Not found on AFL's delist list.

All delisted players are now eligible to sign with the club of their choice, as a delisted free agent, provided they have not rejected a contract offer from their club.

Hey whiteTigar2k, I'm not to far away from Epping...What are you doing up this light can't sleep?? Is that really you in your Avatar???? HeHeHe!!

o_O

Just a little something for my fellow Hawks, as a confidence booster, going in to the FA trade and draft period!!!!

Specially after the hand we've been dealt a few times now from the AFL!

Enjoy the read i did:

"You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear," wrote some sixteenth century Scotsman – but quite a few people have proved him wrong. In 1921, for example, a scientist from Massachusetts mixed the gristle of a sow's ear with a few dozen chemicals, and made a substance that was very much like silk.
And if you prefer to see the phrase as a metaphor, it's been disproved many times over by the AFL draft. The sow's ears that are the very last selections have produced some silky skills over the years. Take Collingwood and Sydney wingman Paul Williams, who went at pick 70. Or Carlton and St Kilda forward Aaron Hamill (pick 79). Contrast those names with, well, most players recruited by Richmond, and you'll see that there's gold in them thar hills.
So cheer up all you non-GWS talent scouts. There's no need to spend draft day settling for mediocrity, then bitching about Kevin Sheedy over a bottle of scotch. Draw comfort from these six late draft picks who could all play a bit. With a little luck, you might even find one yourself.
6. Damien Hardwick (pick 87, 1992)
Most drafts find a place for honest battlers – but it's generally somewhere near the bottom. A prototypical half-back taken at pick 87, Hardwick took a while to cement a spot in the Essendon backline and missed out on the famous Baby Bombers' premiership of 1993. The aggressive, flint-hard defender was a crucial part of the 2000 premiership side, however, and also helped Port Adelaide to snare their first flag in 2004.
5. Brian Lake (pick 71, 2001)
They're still not a happy team at Hawthorn, thanks to their latest grand final loss to Sydney, but recruiting former Bulldog Lake will have helped lift the mood. The two-time All Australian started his career in the "super draft" of 2001, albeit at the less than super number of pick 71. Quick, strong and an excellent kick, he's been one of the AFL's best defenders for the best part a decade (provided we don't dwell on a horrible 2011).
4. Dane Swan (pick 58, 2001)
This Swan was once an ugly duckling. In 2000, the Collingwood ball-magnet was a low-possession forward pocket for the Calder Cannons, with a questionable kicking technique and an attitude to match. "Athletically, you thought 'Oh s---!'' said the Magpies' then-recruiting manager Noel Judkins, "but the thing that stood out was that he didn't fall over. He had that ducky running style, but he knew where to go and what to do with it." And Judkins knew what to do too, taking the late-maturing larrikin at pick 58. Premierships, a Brownlow Medal and Copeland Trophies have followed.
3. Alastair Lynch (pick 50, 1986)
Lynch was comfortably the best player in the inaugural national draft – so everybody naturally ignored him. Fitzroy finally used their fourth pick on the burly Tasmanian, and he didn't take long to justify their faith by becoming an excellent full-back, winning All Australian and State of Origin selection. But Lynch's career really took off when he moved to the forward line – and then to the Brisbane Bears in a 10-year deal with the Bears. Immediately made co-captain, we went on to notch up three premierships, 300 games and a club record 633 goals. Not bad for a man who spent so much time on the last line of defence, and almost retired due to chronic fatigue syndrome that plagued him for several years.
2. Chris Grant (pick 105, 1998)
According to football's brightest minds, the 1988 draft contained 104 players who were better than Grant. These included the three top picks - Alex McDonald, Todd Breman and Carl Dilena - whose feats at the highest level were easily surpassed by a rangy 15-year-old from Daylesford. A two-time All-Australian and three-time best and fairest, who racked up a then-club record 341 games, the Bulldog champion should have won the Brownlow in 1997, but was ineligible due to suspension. He should also get a prize for managing to kick over 500 goals while playing practically half his career at half back.
1. James Hird (pick 79, 1990)
The gold standard of sow's ears, Hird was more than a steal at pick 79 - he was a major crime. Even Essendon can't get claim too much credit for recruiting the future Brownlow medallist, premiership captain and five-time club champion, who had been plagued with a hip problem throughout his junior career. The Bombers chose no fewer than six players before Hird. Of those, only one actually chalked up a senior game but Hird's glittering career more than compensated for those earlier misses.

Thing about Josh Toy is, he actually has barely (if ever) played a good game of seniors footy, much less AFL. Barely played in their VFL year (2010), was poxy in 2011 - had 8 kicked on him by Kyle freakin' Reimers, and outright horrible on the 3 or 4 occasions he got a run this year at the top grade - and only middling-to-fair in their reserves (in the NEAFL where Cleve Hughes is a gun).

There's a lot of question marks. I wouldn't want risk him on a main list, 2009 is a loooong time ago.

They have no other choice to work hard and improve before they can consider leaving. The next few years will be telling.

Mr Anderson... I've been waiting for you to make an appearance. You hear that Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability...

he'd be a good get, but its hard to know what we consider a more pressing need. An elite talent, yes- but do we need a def/mid? Do we need another kpd more? Like Gillies? Or do we need an attacking half forward/mid?

Hard to know- lots of delisted free agents id look at in the whole scheme of things.
I see Toy as a Burgoyne replacement which is something we should really consider as all our younger defenders are one position players and can't go into the midfield. I think this is a pretty big deficiency going forward. With so many opposition HFF that can go into the mid we need guys in the backline who can follow them without being exposed. Hoping Langford can be that kind of player but I think that Toy would give us some elite talent in that role. I'd use pick one on the best available HFF/MID to address a deficiency there. I think between Anderson and pick 29 we can fill our HFF/MID weakness in the short term (depth more so than first team). I really don't think we need another third tall defender with Kelly and Litherland both on the list and flexibility in our defensive structures.

Is he really a bigger risk than someone we would draft in the 70s or 80s?

Started off really poorly, spent most of the year in the reserves.

Once he cracked into the side late in the season he played well and held his spot.
Some of the footage I saw of Lisle was first class. He has some areas he needs to improve. The challenge to a coach is to fit him into a team/game plan and make use of his strength (marking/spoiling). Clarkson seems to put a cross against players that can not tick every box, the biggest of those boxes being kicking.
I saw Lisle as a player you could structure up around. Think Young kicking it 65 metres towards Lisle at CHF with Rioli and Breust at his feet. Suckling spearing a ball 60 minutes over a forward press to Lisle on the wing, or Lisle sitting deep inside defensive 50 fisting the ball clear or taking contested marks. Yes teams were able to exploit his weaknesses, but the good stuff he offers is why Brisbane were happy to trade pick 29 for him.

Lisle is probably a better fit for the Lions than us. He still wouldn't be getting a game in 2013 for Hawthorn. Some times you need the right player in the right team and Hawthorn was not the right team for Lisle.

Hi all
Just some smokies in the draft I reckon I like the sound of

Nick Rippon ( Nth Ballarat ) 176 cm 80 kg onballer in the mould of Sam Mitchell, precise by hand and foot

Ben Rioli ( St Marys) small but elite kicking defender

Jason Pongracic ( stingrays ) hard big bodied no nonsense kid who Knightmare has at our first pick in his phantom draft

Shane Nelson ( west Perth ) high possession both inside and out who by reports has the time of a Scott Pendulbury

Jake Lloyd ( Nth Ballarat ) TAC coaches award winner, again an elite kick

Any one else got any good smokies out there ?

Is there any good young genuine small forwards in the draft? Would love us to pick up a small forward to develop and to also push one of Breust or Cyril into the midfield.

Oh how I would love another Rioli in the hawks team! Although I thought he wasn't eligible until next year's draft or is that Willy Rioli?

Would go along way to keeping cyril at the club should he ever decide he wanted to go home and add to that Jed Anderson is close to the Rioli's could be a very good choice!

Another smoky is Will Hams. Someone else on here has mentioned that we have interviewed him several times at his house so I think we are keen.

Knightmare has him going at Pick 69 to GWS 1 pick after our #68!

I asked Knightmare whether he thought Hams was good enough for #29 and he said probably not so perhaps we are hoping he slips through to our 2nd pick!

Here's what Knightmare said about him:

#69 GWS (Via Gold Coast) – Will Hams (VIC – Mid/Def)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Gippsland Power
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Really impressive small who can play to a high level both through the midfield and down back. Through the midfield Hams stands out with his attack on the ball and ability to read the ruck taps. He just gets into right position every time and this allows him to be an incredibly effective clearance player. Hard runner and after he disposes of the ball is one of those guys who will keep going and keep working. Hams is also a really nice user of the footy by both hand and foot with a particularly impressive left foot. Strong overhead. One of those guys who just has a dip and you want on your tea.

Cameron Banfield (VIC – Util)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 01/02/1994
Always seems to have plenty of time and space. Has played mostly down back this season but has the versatility to play through the midfield or up forward in the past. Down back Banfield this year has shown the ability to set up play and meaningful forward movements by foot. Banfield is one of those players with more time than the next player and finds his targets by foot every time. Can win his own ball as well as get outside ball and has a strong tackling game.
“Balanced and poised who uses the ball very well on either foot. Has excellent natural speed and tackles strongly. Averaging 17.6 disposals (40 percent contested) in 12 TAC Cup matches this year.”
