So under the new Free Agency rules, can we essentially just sign Toy if he gets delisted from the suns and not bother with the draft?

Well, having some time to think over the trade period, I understand why we got Spangher. Also stoked to get Jed Anderson and Brian Lake. I reckon we might only use one pick in the draft and upgrade 2 rookies.
I'm not sure there is anyone on the rookie list who will give us a greater chance of winning a premiership in 2013. Not even sure any of them would get a game tbh. I'd say we will pick a young mid, a KPF and a mature aged recruit.

For me the Jed Anderson trade is a beauty. I was shocked when I heard we got him so cheaply. I look at it as a lasting Stevie G legacy and because he fell a few games short of playing a 100 with us, Jed Anderson is a pseudo father/son pick

The player is not eligible for free agency if his club wishes to retain him. He may only move clubs via a trade or the draft. If he delists himself, he is subject to the draft, and may be selected by any club.

Not sure I understand the love for this kid - he was in my fantasy team so I've kept an eye on him, has done very little to this point in his career. Add in the heart condition and he looks an awfully risky pick. I say file him under Jesse Smith for Body Wasn't Up To It.

We let Shane Tuck to because of a heart condition and he has been serviceable for Richmond.

Because Toy hasn't been delisted we can't just sign him can we? But we could Gillies.

I've had a few hours to ponder as to why GWS traded a potential 1st round draft pick for Gilham when they could have got more for him and I have come up with this theory:

GWS do not see us as a threat to their premiership chances whenever that comes about as our window would potentially be closed so they are happy to offload him to us! If they had of traded him to the Dogs as was rumoured then GWS may have had more competition when there window (god I hate this window stuff) was open!

Little do GWS know that we wont bottom out and in fact be a premiership threat for the next 10 years:D

GWS obviously thought Jed wasn't as good or had more risk than the kids they would get with their active picks in this draft. Unless a team came up with something better than ~15 or a future compensation pick it was unlikely to make any difference to their list whatever pick they got outside that.

Gilham is a good get for them as it gives them an on field leader which (like Dawson at Fremantle) makes it easier for their new coach in waiting to deliver his message with a familiar voice on field.

Its like a trade of Jed Anderson for Gilham + Future assistant coach + Intellectual property. Makes sense in a team full of future potential superstars.

In - Lake, Spangher, Mr. Anderson.
Out - Gilham, Murphy, Young, Changa, Boumann, Bruce.

So no need to delist anyone?

Need to delist one more. You'd think we might only use our first two picks and elevate someone with our pick 72 or whatever it is (Schneider?)

Who is in the gun? Grimley is contracted I believe?
Bruce?

There's a lot more to it than that.

I'm not talking about players that walk from the club. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that if a player is delisted by a club then they essentially become an unrestricted free agent.

Lol very nice1 :thumbsu:

The Might of Wright has done it again!! Well done Hawks and Graham we have become very good at this :)

I think we shall get Toy as a FA too. Very shrewd Hawks, keep it up!

Sssshpahnger is built nice and big a great backup.
Anderson.....have you seen this guy tackle in the vids?! He has the mongrel in him which is great and what a great get!
And then there's Lake. Fills a hole to a tee, and the flow on effect on the rest of the team will be like a bunch of flowers blossoming in all their grandeur.

Then theres pick 29

Nobody picked up Fev!!!
the AFL will temporarily create a 19th club, draft fev with pick 0 and then dissolve the new club after the preseason draft just to stop Fev getting onto a list.
