Before you cut sick, this is simply a thread for the discussion of possibly looking to trade a player in a position we have a little depth in, and where we could get quality in return. I am not advocating we trade him.

With Moore's outstanding form recently we may have found our FB. I always felt Thursfield was a 3rd tall, and with Rance to come into our side, perhaps there is scope to look to trade Thursfield to help fix our list needs. We would then look to draft another developing key back in the national draft.

Key Defenders:
Kelvin Moore---------189 cm 24 yrs old
Will Thursfield-------191 cm 22 yrs old
Luke McGuane-------191 cm 21 yrs old
Alex Rance----------192 cm 18 yrs old
David Gourdis-------192 cm 18 yrs old

Utilities:
Graham Polak------194 cm 24 yrs old
Jay Schulz----------193 cm 23 yrs old

you're an idiot

discussion over

Agreed tucker. I've never understood how you can underrate our list so severely beaver, but when you make suggestions like this it makes a bit more sense.

Hes a gun FB and our best pure FB

Absolutely see no point in trading him and then drafting another key back. waste of time, effort and development.

stupid idea

I agree with our depth and it's an area we could look at trading.

But the timing is all wrong. Wait 2 more seasons an the Value of both Mcgaune and Thursfield will be huge. Mcgaune being from GC could get us some serious picks.:thumbsu:

Can't really see your angle here. Moores doing well, Thursfield is spoiling everything in sight and McGuane does enough to keep his opponent accountable - That's pretty much where the depth stops. Rance has a way to go yet, Gourdis may never play at AFL level, Polak may never get back to 100% and Schulz you can toss a coin whether he's gonna pull his finger out from week to week.
It's definately not an area we should stop looking at improving.

Wil has struggled this year but i wouldn't be looking to trade him.
If anything I think we need to add another bigger defender to compliment the stocks we have.

Nut...you seem to almost have a fetish for the draft. You're a good poster, but you just seem to overrate picks a little bit. It's almost as though, if you were coach, we would never actually challenge, but just continually be rebuilding and gaining good draft picks.

Yep I agree regarding improving our key defensive stocks. I only see Moore, Thursfield and Rance as genuine options going forward. However the rest won't get us any quality in return. I think McGuane could fill his spot until a Hurley/Lisle/Trengove came on.

I started the thread to initiate discussion on ways to fix our list structure, not because I want to trade Will. Just an idea guys, even if it's a bit from left field and no chance of happening.

we must all remeber that this is Will's first year back from a knee reco he is only going to get better, all players take a little time to get back after that and he's actually playing pretty damn good footy at the mo. Will only get better..... very punny that!

The secret to list management is that it never stops... Look what geelong did to get Ottens off us... they gave us pick 16 and traded Mahoney ( because they had half a dozen better midfielders) to Melb for pick 12 and off loaded that to us to secure the deal. Mahoney came off the rookie list.

I want to keep Moore, Thurs and Mcgaune, they could well be ten year players together. But if Rance or Gourdious become a better version of one the 3 we have now, someone will get squeezed out... do we keep them for depth at coburg or do we off load them when their value is high???
Making calls... early calls can gain you some great picks.... it's all about the timing.

precisely why it's the stupidest thing Ive heard all day

I don't think we have THAT much depth down back that we can afford to get rid of Thursty. He's had an ok year, but still not at his full potential yet.

Perhaps some suggested trades might help give a better idea (again I'm not saying I'd agree with these trades):

Thursfield =
- Renouf + Pick 15
- Warnock + Pick 21
- Thorpe + Pick 15 (plus our 2nd rounder)
- McIntosh

all nuff nuff trades, none of the players mentioned have demonstrated they can play to the level that thursty has already reached...a couple mentioned have barely troubled scoreres at VFL level in Thorp and renouf...Id be intersted but not at Thursty's expense He will be part of the cornerstone to our future success

Thurstfield would defiently get us a top 20 pick.

He has stagnated this year imo. Moore has gone right past him and McGuane is closing fast. Thurstfield was given a bath in the first quater against Bradshaw and was well beaten by Gamble/Longegan/Johnson.

I'm not saying we should trade him, what I'm saying is that he shouldn't be looked at as the messiah.

Hello reason, I was hoping it would pop up somewhere in this thread above all the sniping.

Give him another pre-season on the weights and witness how awesome Thirsty will be!

Thursty is now about as big as he is going to get. Richmond's conditioning staff have told him not to weight any more then 90kg's because he will lose too much speed. He, like McGuane, also has a very lean body (probably genetic) and struggle to put any weight on

Why bother starting such a stupid thread if you think none this is going to happen?
I think you have too much time on your hands:o

Yeah only got the 2 subjects in my last semester and can't be buggered doing any work.

Other than that, the thread is simply a forum of ideas. Whether or not they are realistic is not important here (since when has it been on bigfooty anyway?), but such things have happened before, such as Hawthorn trading Thompson & Hay and St.Kilda trading Hall & Everett to improve the list.
