Environment Trail Talk: Hikes, Plants & Birds

Couldn't find anything specific so here's the thread to share some of your hikes and nature walks. I've been meaning to start learning more about the birds, wildlife and the plants on my hikes and NOT resort to using cheap AI.

I've been bitten by the bug and been hiking for a year now and been to the Grampins and various regions in SA. What I love the most are the smells of plantlife during various seasons but discovering some of the local gems.

I'll add some photos from my recent trips.

I'm wondering if we could do with another Thread topic? I'll put in Environment for now.

Completed the Great Ocean Walk over the new year which was excellent.

The recommendation is 8 days, however I did it in 6 and met people who were doing it in 4 or 5 days, as well as people doing it in 8 days.

You'll need to book campsites in advance as there's quite a limited number, and do some additional planning, however it's well worth it.

Carried everything with me for the duration, with a pack that came in at about 20kgs inc water and dropped down to 17.5kgs by the end as things got consumed.

In terms of food I went for heat and eat stuff like Campers Pantry and Back Country for meals, then threw in a stack of snacks as well for fuel during the hike and general variety.

You can do drops or caches along the way, as there's several sites that have an adjacent/nearby carpark or drive in campsite that allows for easy vehicle access. Alternately if you're going with someone you can also park a vehicle at one of the sites en-route and use that to drive somewhere for supplies if needed.

The more pressing concern was not showering, which I ended up going 6 days without a shower or a swim. Could have done so at Aire River but skipped camping there, every other beach/site thereafter had bluebottles on the beaches so it wasn't feasible to go for a dip.
