Hey guys,

Just some notes from training today:

It was a full group session, no Casey/MFC divide.

Grimes doing speedy laps and not part of training obviously.
Toumpas out doing some light running and skills work.

Started with a lot of running for the main group
Then sprints and directional runs
Followed by a 50m arc drill where players would kick from the goal square up the flank and then HFF to CHF and a shot on goal. Skills were decent but some kicks not to advantage with the player having to wait for the ball.
While this was happening the rucks were practicing boundary throw ins with taps to the front (Rovers: Howie, TMac, Mags, Tappy) - Gawn smashed Fitzy, Gawn and Jamar the best two by far.
Then bumping and tackling practice with people swapping over every 5 minutes and they were hitting each other hard. Jonesy is a mongrel, Jetta and M Jones nearly ripped each others heads off.
Then wrestling to the ground, until someone won, defenders pretty much all beat forwards, Frawley monstered Watts after a good tussle.
Followed by some low ball work and skills were good here.
Then full ground drills where the skills were good. Going up the flank and shots on goal to boot, Watts was in the forwards group.

At this same time, a splinter group moved to a different paddock, looked like all VFL players and Magner was in this group :/

That's about it! I had to get back to work!

A guy on Demonland said that Watts was doing a lot of goalkicking. Playing forward this week?

Getting up his trade value? :p

Yeah, as I said, he was in the forwards group. I think he will be playing forward as that's where he wants to play. If he kicks less than 2 though, he can go back to defence for mine!

Cheers for the info syl, appreciated as always.

The move of Watts forward is the right option with Clark missing until at least the bye. Dawes has worked hard but extra support is needed to take the pressure off. Our back six is pretty settled also so a run up forward will do him some good.

Yeah, Watts will hopefully play forward. Need another option up there, Tappy never presents well enough.

Watts trains with the forwards... Neeld says he'll play back..

Could you not just ask if it was a smoke screen?

Just another bizarro Neeld statement. Especially considering we've finally found the right balance in defence.

Not if I was going to lend it the aura of cluelessness it really needed. A picture can say a thousand words...

Tappys lead is usually backwards at full speed into a pack of blokes going flat chat in the opposite direction :)

The line up on paper means stuff all. I reckon he will play both sides.

We'll be lucky to have the whole team kick more than 2 goals against Fremantle/Lyon.

Predicting we have 2 goals inside 5 minutes on Sunday arvo... and then only kick 2 for the rest of the match... ;)

I thought against Richmond he presented much better than he has previously, took a few decent grabs! Would like to see it step up to another level, cant fault his physical presence though.

Yeah Tappy has actually hit a little bit of form since they have left him in the side. Guy is a battler who goes hard. We need these types.

If we could only manage 54 points against Gold Coast a couple of weeks ago on our home ground. Boy oh boy, we actually might not score against Fremantle.

McPharlin will make sure Dawes doesn't get a kick near goal and Crowley will make sure Nathan Jones doesn't have any impact on the game. Even with Freo's many injuries, I'm fearing the worst on Sunday. The bigger ground hurts us as well, as our spread is terrible and our defensive running is so poor, Freo will just run all over us. I would be very surprised if we kicked a score higher than 40.

Lucklily for us, Freo haven't been smashing teams, so we might only lose by 10-12 goals. But like the Richmond game, i can sense we will try and flood, which on the bigger ground will be extremely difficult and will mean we will struggle to get the ball inside 50 more than 30 odd times. Will be ugly...

Yeah, Tappy has really started to show a good work rate the last few weeks. Presents well IMO, but it's really impossible for leading forwards to have much impact for us at the moment with the tentative, start-stop way we move the ball forward.

Tappy has been promising. Probably his best stretch of form since being drafted. Sometimes I feel like our players could be so much more with better line coaches. If we had someone teaching him how to lead, and someone teaching the others how to find him, he'd be a very effective forward.
