For those who could not attend training this morning, below are some quick notes. As for me, i will be in strife for rockin up to work late....but its worth it!

overall great session started at 9am and i left at 10.30 and it was still going.

started with drills with run and carry across the field, very good to see most players fit and raring to go

whitecross and birch on the bikes, youngy doing some laps....however, im scared abt young

stokes, burgoyne and tucky doing laps. stokes running real fast no sign of the ACL, has anyone got the full story with stokes? he seems to recover very quickly from a 12 month injury. burgoyne just joggin and tucky running but does not look that fit, had a huge strap on his leg

hodge: in the drills boy, was he going in hard.....looks at peak fitness, need to see his odds for the brownlow, if he keeps fit, play him mostly through the centre and rest in forward pocket, he can be very damging and assist the goalkicking reliance on buddy and roughie....can also use lewis forward

shoey- very impressive

lowden - watched him closely, he looks very mobile for his height and has heaps of potential, needs to add 15kg, will be raring to go in 2011

in the ruck group, i was not impressed with skippers ruckwork got beaten in the contest everytime

shiels looks great, as did muston, who i believe has done lots of work on his ball drop which is extremely important

hooper - very impressed with his attitude.....was encouraging and runnning hard all day

pieterson - for me he will be elevated, he looks fit and has trhat special talent to him

mitch - got a knock during the game and recovered

gibbo - looks good as did gilham

browny all good

i was looking for stratton in the game and just could not follow him, can anyone report on his progress

Goo - looks good as did everyone else

bateman - i did not see him train the whole session

sewell was doing laps

ellis - watched him, now we need a big season from him, i just don't know, he has been injury free but he is so light, i mean shiels is more built, i hope he can use his skill all year and build some more pace....we need him

laddo - done well saw his skills on display today

roughie- looks great

no renouf as we know

grimley - he tries hard but stuggled with skills as you expect, seems to have a positive attitude and is keen as mustard....needs to put on 15kgs this year and get very fit

shoey - as above, looked great during the game and was fit which means we can use him to run out of defence with gibbo alot

lewis looked ok

dowler - did not spot him much same as lisle

there was a real young kid there, maybe that was stubbs...the little blond kid, need to see his picture.

they are some quick notes and are just opinions for the info of those who could not come, please be free to add esp on stratton and lowden!

The flipside to this is that someone was beating Skipper everytime. Taylor?

I dropped in to see how the boys were going.

I thought Youngy looked quite good. He isn't doing any major kicking yet but he's at the stage where he is running laps at a fair clip.

Tuck, Burger and Stokes just ran laps.

Even Max did some running work on the far wing. No sign of any leg bandages in sight.

Plenty of work done on stoppages and they even had a bit of scratch match with Hodge, Ladson and JKT all impressing.

Great sign for the club that there's very few injuries compared to this time last year.

On Ellis - It seems people too often get hung up on the size of a players arms or chest. Provided X has continued to work on and develop his core strength then his apparent lack of size through these areas shouldnt be an issue.

The flipside to this is that someone was beating Skipper everytime. Taylor?

Skipper is a midget in terms of ruck size at 193cm.

Skipper will go ok against mobile running rucks such as Brennan, Kreuzer and Ryder as these guys gave Tails and Renouf a whipping last year around the ground.

Skips will play when the match ups suit us.

Speaking of rucks. Our history of developing our own is not the greatest. Any chance we might actually recruit from the draft one day and actually have some luck.

From the top of my head over the past 15 years.
Steve Lawrence (91 unbelievable and then fell away) Fail
David Loats (struggler) Fail
Simon Crawshay (struggler) Fail
Paul Salmon (from the Bombers) Pass
Peter Everitt (from the Saints) Pass
Shaun Rehn (from the Crows) Fail
Brent Renouf (jury still out)
Robbie Campbell (solid) Pass
Max Bailey (jury still out)
Luke Lowden (jury still out)
Wade Skipper (jury still out)

Go Hawks, great read, thanks for sharing.

Thanks also to CM for the photos, Jordan Lewis looks in absolutely ripping shape:thumbsu:
Great to hear some good positive feedback on Beau Muston as well.

one other thing and thanks for the pics, in relation to Whitecross, i am so impressed with this kid, watching him at Box Hill last year i was so impressed with his leadership in the huddle at quarter and 3 qtr time, he is constantly encouraging teammates....there was one example in particularly, where at box hill dowler (who was struggling) backed himself and ran through and kicked a goal, whitecross ran up to him grabbed him and said 'that is it dowler, that is what we want from you', i must say i was surprised to hear him talking to dowler like that and in huddles he was always vocal.

today, while on the bike he was also encouraging players like hodgey and others.....i am very impressed with him as a 3rd year player. i am interested to see how he goes this year, and what position he will be playing.......i would like him to play 1st's this year anfd i feel he is very underrated......any one have any views on whitey, for me he is a future leader/ captain of our club.

Any reports of Buddy ?

According to Herald Sun , Buddy has recovered from minor injury and that Max Bailey and Stokes are in rehab.

And Brent Renouf has not resumed yet after suffering burns, and Whitecross has started running after surgery.

So i guess that all other players are ok.

No mention of Burgoyne , Tuck , Young ,

Is it just me or does Lewis look slimmer than previous seasons. I've never thought of him as slim, more 'Dew' than 'Ellis', but now he looks like he has a very good build.

Check the links in this thread for pics of Buddy training with the main group. Note the Tatt is growing.

Burgoyne is running. Same as Young. Building up fitness before rejoining the main group.

I headed down with the young fella today as well. Just some stuff that hasn't been mentioned already.

Buddy looked awesome (tatt is growing by the minute) took every grab at full pace with the dukes out. Didn't look like spilling one of them. It was great to watch.

Hodgey was a raging bull in the scratch match. This could finally be the year that the umpires finally give him a vote. I will be putting some money on him after today that's for sure.

What can I say about Schoenmakers, Jesus he is getting big. Probably still another preseason from being able to have a crack at the big boys like J Brown, but he's definitely heading in the right direction and quick. He made a couple of errors during the praccy match but will get better every week. Hard to believe he is only 19 years old. Don't put too much pressure on him this year guys.

People have already spoken about Lewis' physical change, but the most thing that impressed me was his leadership and direction during the training drills.

Hooper's skills are fantastic and looked to push through the drills hard.

Sewell was running laps in bare feet. Not sure why he was doing that.

Stokes was miles ahead of Burgs and Tuck in their laps around the ground. Tuck looked very proppy towards the end. Didn't look good for him.

Bateman did the majority of training and skills were excellent as always. Not sure why he didn't play in the praccy match.

Grimley was having a crack during the praccy match and even got a bit too excited and wrapped up his teamate (Schoey) in a big tackle at one stage. The boys had a good laugh at that one.

Overall I was pretty impressed at the intesity and skills for this time of year. They guys also seemed to be enjoying themselves which I reckon is a good sign.

i was down there for the full training also....

really like the way shoey is looking... hes going to be awesome...

was super impressed with hoopers attitude, gibsons dominance of the scratch match and hodgeys display right through training was a cut above everyone....

i read in previous threads that ppl seem happy with musto... unfortunetely i disagree and thort his decision making and skill execution was very poor in the pressure drill and the scratch match... i am concerned...

i have a pretty good feeling about tails this year however..... he looks massive and seems to be doing alot of work with the big monk which should iron out a few of his deficiencies...

dowler was quiet in the scratch match, and murph butchered a few....

have heaps more info if people are after specifics, shoot me some questions
