Report from "Whats Crackin"

For the first time in a long time, i had the pleasure of watching 426 not only moving, but joining in everything! i was particulary the pace of his leads, and i have to say he isnt the quickest ive seen but sure as hell isnt the slowest. fingers crossed with no more injuries he will benefit from full training sessions and fine tune his leading, as i dont think its a matter of pace, its a matter of timing.

Fan is correct in saying philthy was training well today, extremeley vocal and was here there and everywhere in all of the drills.

The player who impressed me most today was Matty Warnock. He really impressed me in the "game" practice drill, his reading of the ball was second to none of our other defenders today, still lacking a bit of weight on his body but having said that, not only did he have the anticipation of the play, but he had the courage to back himself, even when it meant cutting across a barrelling david neitz lead to mark the ball. I really did fear for his life but he held up unbelieveabley well. If he continues to improve in leaps and bounds as he has, he will be a handy backline contributer in a couple of years.

what to say about the Chook! looking massively buff, his kicking was a delight to watch, in a corridor drill that they had to do he ran the lines just about better than anyone. very intense in everything he did today, born to be a leader.

fan already covererd bruce, moloney, and godfrey etc (the injured mob), not much more to elaborate there!

i know i mentioned Jamar last training, but he has got so much quicker in all movements. performed a dashing sprint today, was suprised when i looked closer and saw it was him!

in the tackling technique drills, i enjoyed watching bate, jones, miller, flash and pickett, as they could perform it the best. even though it was a a slow jog "tackle" focussing on technique rather than strength and power, somehow these boys made a great slapping sound whenever they connected a tackle.

It's interesting to note how much muscle White has put on up top. Looks like he will take part in a more physical rucking role this year rather than his signiture run and jump.

Injuries:

Brent Moloney walked the boundry and did no running or any participation. No noticable injury so I can't add anything to the state of his health.

Brucey joined in some of the lighter drills.

Miller did not do any of the match simulations but did some skill work.

Sylvia did do the match simulations. Good news.

TJ was there and did all the training.

CJ was there at the beginning handballing on the side of the oval but took no part in training, his thigh was strapped.

Godders still sidelined from the heavier stuff.

Danny Hughes was sidelined as well.

It's understandable that Danny Hughes was sidelined. He has been out of the game for about 15 years.

Good to hear that Norm is fit and looking good, if he performs to his potential then the David Neitz replacement problem is easily solved, and it would also allow Johnson to concentrate on being a ruckman in the future. Of course, I am not saying that Smithy is gonna come out and blitz it in 2006, but you can always dream.

From all reports, it does seem 426 is training the house down and hopefully, fingers crossed, if he can stay injury-free who knows what he can do?

Good set of hands, quick and strong, the potential is there.

A bit worrying with his pace though, apparently Holland can beat him in a sprint. One thing bout Neitz that not many realise is that he can move quite quick for a big guy so pace is certainly an advantage in the key forward positions.

Neitz is very quick over 15-20 metres for his size, why do you think he's so intimidating when he runs at packs?

Glenn Archer was quoted as saying it's the scariest noise in football, backing in only to hear thundering footsteps 15 metres away and you know its David Neitz.

Thats a worry if Holland is beating him, but he can always start off in Hollands role in FP if he is not yet quick enough to play FF.

You're right Shev. We can only dream.
But in seriousness if 426 can stay fit he could replace Neita in a couple of years IMO. Can take the big contested grabs and is a good kick. Mobility won't be a huge worry if we use him as a specialist FF.

I remember Neitz cleaned up Archer a couple of years ago. It was a fair bump, Archer got back up after it, but boy did Neitz go bang!

He has laid some great shirt fronts over time. That young West Coast bloke in the 2004 Wizard Cup, Luke McCabe, and numerous others. When Neitz hits, he hits hard.

No way, haha that's hilarious.

Kind of like Neitz and Ellis boxing on in Round 22, 2001 only for Ellis to be traded to Melbourne a few weeks later.

Ellis actually got suspended for that, and couldn't play Round 1.

I wonder what it was like for Browny and Pickett, considering Pickett gave him a real good one a few years ago.... :D

He gave Godders a nice one in the same game i believe,

I think we still won it though.
