Just found this, was anyone there?

Some interesting comments on Mark Johnson, went pretty hard at it, schammer was getting into it and they asked about keplar, the answer seems to be no mor conclusive than what we have been throwing around, will be a utility with ability to play wing if he gets fit enough.

It sounds to me like Carlton should prepare for a pretty physical game over there in SA.

Training was just shown on channel ten.

Schammer was quite physical opposed to Palmer, a bit of welcome to the big league type stuff.

Dessie was a standout playing as a midfielder.

Farmer pulled up and looked injured but is fine.

Warnock and Hasleby didn't play due to soreness.

crickey, saw it on the news, they looked bloody angry. Schammer looks bigger which is great for him he needed some size. They were going at it hard, good to see, hope freo crush the blues physically and mentally.

Good thing is it didn't look like Palmer was going to back down.

I think he'll be good value and he's going to get up the nose of a few opposition players.

I heard a headline on Fox Sports News that there was a dust up at Freo training so I stuck around until the report was on. Bit of push and shove between Dessie and Schammer. At a ball up, Schammer started to put some body on Des (only trying to get in front), so Des decided he'd lash out and give young Byron a little something to think about. If this is the sort of discipline Des is showing at training, what have we got to look forward to during the season? I reckon Des is a valuable member of our team but it's always disappointed me that he can't control his aggression. If he puts on a show like that in a game I hope he gets dragged because it's costly to the team, completely pointless and totally stupid. Grow up, Des.

i heard he was simply standing up for Palmer after Schammer had been giving it to him. Good on Des i reckon.

That cracks me up, after years of people bagging out Des for being to soft you bag him out for getting too physical!

I refer you to the following article about the Portland Trail Blazers. Joke of a team, until just recently where they realised dogging out a game can get you a long way. And they started with each other. I hope to god that Freo can show some of the heart that the Blazers have shown. And if it starts with Des having a crack at Byron then bring it on.

Someone at Fox has been doing some fancy editing. You got it right freo1 - Des was just standing up for his teammate (Palmer) after his opponent (Schammer) was giving him a hard time at the centre bounce. Palmer was giving it back to Schammer too, but good to see Des is still willing to fly the flag.

Fox = the worst in the media stakes... dont believe anything you see in these outlets.

As for Desland, Shim Sham was on the other team, so good on him for dusting him up.. thats what we would want in a game and it was a game simulation. Shammer was busting up on Palmer anyhoo, so seems like normal footy stuff to me

Physical aggression has never been an issue for Des, but prior to 2007 his attack on the ball was sometimes a problem.

That's what it looked like. Many of Palmer's teammates gave him a pat on the back post game and Schammer shook his hand post game so it was obvious that there wasn't any ill feeling there.

There's a huge difference between getting physical and giving away stupid free kicks. I agree with the others that the news footage was probably out of context, but the point still stands. In a game situation, is this going to help? No, if an incident like this occured in our back half, 90% of the time the free kick given away will result in a goal. A goal that we didn't need to concede. Will it stop the opposition from pushing our guys around? No, it will encourage them to do it more because they know there's a d!ckhead willing to turn the ball over and give away free goals if they continue pushing and shoving.

I'm all for retaliation. Give at least as good as you get. But do it through legal aggression, eg charging that little bit harder for the shepherd, slamming them in to the turf that little bit harder on the next tackle or something along those lines. Just slapping someone across the head is more costly and less effective. Not to mention girly.
