I’ve never been on it. But can you move over and make some room? Desperate times indeed.
I said at the start of the season that he was likely to take the next step but I got attacked unmercifully so I jumped off the train. I'm still a bit afraid of that train. It would be reassuring if I had another person with me.

With Cameron out, can HDM ruck? Could be a masterstroke to get under Grundy's guard - or perhaps just under his armpit and tickle him in the ruck contest.

This just landed on fb from Anabelle and reading it could be interesting seeing the team selections for tomorrow night unless Jen has more info available when her report comes up probably later

Training notes from the main session:

Fog had lifted by nine when Prindable entered the arena bang on time. Sky was a brilliant blue harbouring just a few stripes of benign white cloud and it was windless making it conducive to a good display of skills.

Anyone missing - a reasonable cast of absentees today which included: Perryman, Hill, Reef, Sullivan, Membrey and Cochran. Sullivan is still struggling with concussion symptoms weeks after the incident. Perryman trained hard last Thursday but Membrey hasn’t been seen since last Tuesday. One can only assume that they’re training inside while the main session is outdoors. Cameron came out and partook of some of the activities etc. but was ruled out by Fly. In addition to his troublesome injury, the birth of his first child is imminent.

Additions? Due to lower numbers, Grey and Teakle from the VFL squad were on board as reinforcements for the match simulation.

Who was in rehab? Both Lippa and Moore worked in the infirmary for the majority of the session, undertaking warm-up work, running and some high powered agility routines showing no signs of their respective concussions at this juncture.

How did they limber up? They traversed the high and low hurdles - there were also a few iterations of kicking routines using the centre square space with a second overlapping group of players rendering the activity a little more complex - There were groups conforming to likely line placements - rucking practice involving: Cameron, Smit, Teakle and Steene. - stoppage work at the John Cain Arena End.involving pressure activities with paired competing generating spillages with ball winners kicking to outlet players. Howe, Houston, Nick and JDG worked separately in a group while this occurred. Nick also did some solo work, focussing intensively on his goalkicking. Smit also undertook some one-on-one extensive work on agility with one of the trainers. There was a separate segment of line work with Sidey with the mids rather than defenders and there was a large number involved here including: Crisp, Allan, HDM, Roan Steele, Nick and Josh, Prindable and Anderson with the VFL destined donning white. The defenders worked at the JCA end simultaneously with all the usual suspects, including Howes, Ryan and Parker. The grid attack - whole ground movement took place before the match simulation which was officiated by the AFL registered umpires.

The matchplay featured some scrappy patches but was also peppered by some fluent passages of play, one notably where Nick ran the length of the ground linking up with various teammates. There was some groaning when players chose to go the backwards route reprising the infamous Chris Mayne habit. It was low scoring with both the black and white team ending eight points apiece. At times the play was antithetical to our gaining and maintaining territory mantra

In terms of selection there are multiple possibilities as to what will be the final complexion of the team. HDM looks a strong chance to debut given that there was a small mix of senior players wearing white during the simulation, but generally when somebody is bound to play for the first time, they don the black. Others with some chance of playing in the first such as West, Hayes and Allan also wore white thus muddying the waters. The likes of Crisp too sported the lighter shade meaning that black or white was not the definitive selection indicator today. Given that Cameron had the red line drawn through his name at the end, the combinations and positions showcased during the matchplay may have belied intentions which adds further intrigue. Buller was not honing his ruck skills but Frampton is needed down back which points to a bit of a ruck dilemma in terms of providing support for the developing but still callow Steene. Parker was wearing black in the matchplay phase, so is likely to retain his place.

All we know for sure is that Lipinski, Moore, Cameron and Pendles will not feature in the harbourside clash on Friday night.

Random observations of players:

Tew - was named the MVP for the VFL but kicking and decision-making are still problems even though there are positive traits sighted. During the sim he didn’t back his ability to shoot for goal on the run, laid off and then received it again but in a tricky position meaning he was kicking around a corner and the ball predictably went askew.

Cameron - he bounced out ready to play but the gimlet eye of coach McRae had other ideas. Given that he’s allegedly carrying a number of niggles, the rest should do him good.

Ryan - feel a bit sorry for him despite his largely vanilla flavoured output. He’s performed solidly of late and selection integrity would suggest he was in line but on prima facie evidence, this doesn’t look likely

West - wouldn’t be against him getting a chance again, albeit in a game in which it would take a Herculean type effort to come home with the bacon. He looked lively today following his four game performance in greasy conditions on the hallowed turf.

Nick - starred in the match simulation sans shackled by a ‘siamese twin’ wherever he goes

Josh - maybe destined for mid minutes judging from today’s outing. Is still sporting a bandage on his arm. Have memories of his wonderful, matchwinning goal at the SCG in 2020 so maybe the toy ground will suit his style.

Buller - was moving up the ground athletically during the match simulation so maybe he could mine some territory in this vein and clear space for West and McStay to do the bulk of the aerial work given that they have stickier hands.

Swadling - following another prolific match stats wise but with much cleaner disposal, he followed this up today with a display of pinpoint kicks to his peers - surely he’ll be in line for some exposure at the top level before season’s end

HDM - many would be probably ambivalent about his selection if this indeed occurs given that he’s just returned from being sidelined with back issues and he’s never demonstrated consistency of performances or strong AFL traits based on exposed form. On the other hand, we face a daunting assignment so why not test the mettle of some of the youngsters on our list? Harry played on the wing today. With this year looking likely not to feature us at the pointy end, fans may prefer to see us roadtesting the broader squad. I for one would prefer to see someone with possibilities make egregious errors than the likes of Sidey struggling. Harry has one more year left on his contract but the coaches have probably been keen to see what he may offer for some time now.

It will be a very tough clash given that the Swans are likely to regain McCartin, Curnow and Serong.

I said at the start of the season that he was likely to take the next step but I got attacked unmercifully so I jumped off the train. I'm still a bit afraid of that train. It would be reassuring if I had another person with me.
I’ll jump on board with you manic.
Thou my pumping up of players is not too successful.
I claimed at the start of this year that Smit would become a defender.
(Long way off there)….
HDM who knows, I’ll back him in with absolutely no conviction.
Let’s go Harry 😊

I’m _hit scared of trains. Too many nutter trains, the blue ones are terrible. They will crash into anything.

Here's one outside the box. I think Howes will come in and play forward/ruck. According to some track watchers, he does a bit of rucking at training. Not good for West but his time will come. IDK, I'm running out of idea's
I was down to Sully for Cameron. 🤔

From reading all the reports I reckon Buller will have to be 2nd ruck which means that we still have a couple of talls if West comes in. If Howes did play he can play alongside Howe which would be a fun line to read out if they still read out the teams. ;) Am worried about Grundy absolutely dominating because Steene surely cannot ruck for most of the game like Brodie does.

I'd rather read posts like this, then to just see the needless shit hanging on young blokes who are having a crack at making the top level. It's pathetic stuff.
