Seeing the trhead about players bagged by their own fans made me think.
The Demons are flying and a bloke who probably takes home one of the five biggest pay packets at the club is not playing.
I know he copped a thigh injury but there's surely room for his skill, especially on the fast tracks leading up to September.
Calls to trade him are a little over the top, what is the feeling on the former number one draft pick???

Less heart than Brad Ottens

Maybe there was something in that draft that sucked the courage out of blokes. He doesn't need to be ultra courageous though, could be the cream on the grand final cake!

so true - as a dees fan - i hate watching him play when he drops his head... he is just a lucky bum who could kick - there are Thousands of young footy players who would do anything to have what he has... he'd better use it or he will be another trailer trash footy player..

I felt more like Johnstone did well earlier in the season. I do remember watching him be part of the reason Melbourne Beat Sydney late in the game.

It's really dissapointing to see a player with so much potential not live up to it. I really hope for his sake when he gets back in the side he starts to live up to the expectations. Unforunately with blokes like Green and Thommo etc stepping up, if he doesn't impress this year, there might not be a #16 at melbourne come 2005.

I saw him play in the VFL on the weekend.

Meh. Did a few good things, cracked the ****s when Ash Watson ran with him and beat him in the last QTR.

Lazy, disinterested but enormously talented footballer.

Should be good trade bait.

Is still capable of winning a game off his own boot, which he did a couple of times early this year. I've always believed that he'll be a better player when we can afford to play him off the bench, impact player that comes on at various times, not a workhorse though. Would be interesting to find out his trade value though.

My we are a tad overconfident aren't we???

Wish some of our players had his talent, but his attitude stinks, whilst he is unbelievably dumb, both on and off the field.

I'd rather Ottens.

He showed he was a class above everyone else on the ground that game. Best on ground behind Ward.

How quick is he (or isn't he)? He never struck me a very quick but some player are faster than they seem, if that makes sense. Does anyone have a reasonable player comparison from a speed perspective?

Yes, he's quick. Runs the 20m in about 2.9 seconds.

Oh really ????..Just which games would they have been ?
He hasn't kicked more than one goal in any game this year (6 from 9 games), so it will be interesting to hear how he has "won a couple of games off his own boot ".

Be fair, he did have 22 touches in the Demons lazy 105 point win over Carlton.
Clearly won it off his own boot.

I reckon if he played for a Richmond, Collingwood or Hawthorn he'd be all over the back pages this season - held up as part of the reason they're doing so badly.

He'll want to pull his finger out before the end of the season though.

He was BOG against the Doggies in Rd 3.

Him and Yze won us the game in the last quarter against the Swans.

And he was a strong contributor when we thrashed Carlton (although that doesn't say much - Ben Holland kicked 4 goals that day. )

How would his pace compare to say Nick Stevens?
Slightly quicker.

He very rarely gets run down, and breaks tackles well. It's his endurance that needs work... still can't run out a full game.

Despite the one great year, his averages are barely on the same level as the James Kellys and Nick Dal Santo's of this world.

Not overly inspiring, given he has 4 years of footy on both players.

travis johnstone is the best player on our list by a country mile!!! i do not care what anyone thinks!! he is an absolute gun!!

just hasnt lived up to his ability... apart from some flashes here and there.... remember he was equal 4th in the brownlow in 2002!!

if we trade him ill be so disappointed, we should just keep him ona reduced contract.

his game on saturday for sandy, just showed he is a class above vfl level, and he probably cracked the ****s coz he was out there.... hahahha!!!

when he comes back into the side fit & fiting, he'll be a very valuable contributor.

and anyone who says he's lazy and not a match winner, look at the game against sydney this year. he got 15 possesions and won us the game with his skill & 1%'s!!!

he was actually playing good footy in the first half of the year

Great vs Bulldogs. Noone from either team could hit a target the whole game, TJ ws the standout with his laser accuracy, and had over 20 possession

Telstra Stadium vs SWans, basically came on and turned thegame the Demons way. He dominated the play in the last quarter

Judged 3rd best afield in the win over Carlton.

game vs Kangas, Dees were flat early til TJ came on and starting racking up touches and pumping it forward

I agree, he obviously doesnt sustain these bursts for long enough period, but when he turns it on there is no better player in the comp to watch, he is as classy and creative as they come. He will be back vs the Crows this week, and if he can get back to his 2002 form then the Demons get even scarier

Gun midfielders average more than 15 touches a game by their 7th year of AFL football.
