They forgot a few things.

• Best prospect in 400 years
• Ability to fly
• Xray vision
• Brought up by a pack of wolves
• Mind control
• Probably the greatest athlete to ever be alive, touted to win 8 brownlows, 6 colemans, 12 premierships, and a norm smith with each.

Don't forget the following:

  • Has shown absolutely nothing so far at Geelong

If you guys expect an 18 yo who missed 1.5 seasons of football to come out and set the world on fire in his first year at AFL, then you have NFI about football at all. Let's hope we see some of that magic this year.

It's not that, what gets me is people blindly assuming he'll be part of our midfield in 2007 and beyond. Maybe he will, but there has been nothing to indicate it thus far.

I'm not having a go at Varcoe, I just think that article is funny. I've got no doubt he'll be a solid AFL footballer after a few preseasons.

Yes and that's all we should be expecting from a skinny kid drafted at pick 15.

All clubs overlooked picking up Davey for the same reasons people are doubting Varcoe can play right now. For lightly built guys who rely on pace, nous and skills to get them round a footy field you have to be patient. Stokes is a perfect example and yet now as he gets to 22 he is looking like a really good prospect. Patience is the key.

People who say varcoe wont make it will be made to look very very stupid. This kid can play. Anyone who watched much VFL would know that even though he hasnt shredded a game there were little flicks, kicks, tackles that were brilliance. Most exciting prospect in some while.

lol that wiki article is a classic... i want what that author is smoking...maybe his mum or agent wrote it.... i hope it all comes true though!!!

I've watched four games of VFL football this year, and seen Travis (I run to the front and wait for one of my team mates to get the ball and give it to me, then blame my injury as an excuse for being soft) Varcoe get about 5 touches.

Well said. For a kid who’s having to adjust to a whole new world down at skilled, had no pre-season and is so young i think its a little early to be casting doubt over his ability. Give him another couple of years to show what he’s got.:thumbsu:

Showed glimpses in the VFL last year. A few deft touches and tap ons in the first final led directly to goals. Stuff like this showed that this kid has AFL reaction time and once fully fit, will make it.

Lets not forget that when Travis began running and drill work it was early in the AFL season. That meant that most players had been running and doing ball work for around 6 months after having 6 or so weeks off. Then also remember that he missed the last 5 or so months of the 2005 season with injury.

Lets give the kid a chance. He'll make it but at least give him a preseason or two.

Lets not forget that Aaron Davey was a few years older before bursting on the sceen a few years back.
