Can someone tell me anything about Trent Cotchin, been hearing things like he's the best all round footballer since Chirs Judd and all this crap.

My god, thats a bloody big rap up. What happened to Bryce Gibbs hype last year?

dont think so. the kid is a gun, good football skills, speed, height and is a bit of a ball magnet, could be a superstar, but i think it is safe to say he will be a handy pickup for one of the bottom side this year.

This kid is a freak. He has all the attributes in the making of a superstar. He plays a bit like Deldio and Judd. Will be no suprise to me if he becomes a superstar very quickly, will step up to the task.

I'm with you, he's got everthing Gibbs has got but a lot more speed and his kicks are more penetrating. Kreuzer is a very good player but Cotchin is the clear number one and the tiger fans will love him.

... dont get me wrong Cotchin is a superstar, but Matt Kreuzer is a GOD he is going to be remembered. Kreuzer will go number1 no doubt. Kreuzer is the best Ruck i have ever seen play the game at his level. Cant wait to he shows the others how to do it next year. Nothing beats a dominant big man.

I've only seen him play last year in the champs but some of his stats this year are simply unbelievable for someone who play his position. He gets the ball 20 times on average during a match. That's midfielder type numbers.

Kreuzer, much like Cox plays as an extra mid. I have never seen a big man get to so many contests.

Better than Matthew Leuenberger? He had remarkable hype last year.

I think it's safe to say the Kreuzer and Cotchin will be 1 and 2. Don't get me wrong, I think Cotchin will be a dead set champion, but Kreuzer is a rare type of player and it would be pure insanity not to take him with the first pick. The thing that stands out for me is that he competes at ground level better than most midfielders in the TAC Cup.

Saw him play in Bendigo on the weekend and he was really throwing his weight around too. Twice he grabbed the ball as he was about to be tackled but dropped the shoulder as he gathered the ball, crunched the would be tackler and fired off a handball.

How tall is he? Can he actually ruck?

Yes, wins a lot of hitouts and does hit it to advantage. One tap of his at the carnival final last year in the rain was a special tap over his head to a forward. He is a gun prospect.

198 or 199 from memory. Not quite 200 but very close. His vertical leap probably wouldn't be a stand out feature, but he is a very good ruckman.

Is 199cm right now and will probably grow. From what I have seen his tap work is very good and he's averaging 30 hitouts a game this season.

He rucked very well against Leuey last year, and has gotten better since. Like Gilly said, he very much plays like another mid, ala Cox, and I have no doubt that he will become a very very good player.

Given Richmond will have the #1 selection, you'd think they would go for Kreuzer. The list isn't exactly full of talented rucks.

TONIGHT'S MCG clash between cellar dwellers Richmond and Melbourne may provide the loser with one of the most accomplished young footballers of the past decade.

Next big thing: Matt Kreuzer is one youngster on the rise. Picture: Norm Oorloff
Standing 199cm, Matthew Kreuzer is already seen as the jewel in this year's national draft crown even before division one of the national under-18 championships begins at Subiaco Oval tomorrow week.
The 18-year-old from the Northern Knights is capable of playing ruck or key forward, making him the most sought-after young player in the land.
This week Kreuzer, and his family, appointed Elite Sports to manage his affairs.
"I was getting heaps of phone calls so we thought we should make a decision," said Kreuzer, who barracks for Collingwood and lists Dean Cox and Josh Fraser as his idols.
Many experienced recruiting and under-18 managers compare him to a young Fraser, the Magpies' 1999 No. 1 draft pick.
Take Essendon's respected list manager Adrian Dodoro, who knows with seven wins already that his club is going to be out of the race.
"Matthew is a rare talent with an ability to influence games like few others who have come through the system. A really exciting young player," Dodoro.
Or Geelong Falcons regional manager Michael Turner, who in the past 12 years has overseen players such as Jonathan Brown, Matthew Scarlett and Gary Ablett Jr.
"I should qualify my assessment by admitting I've only seen Matthew Kreuzer play once, on a wet day in Colac earlier this year," Turner said.
"In that game he produced one of the most outstanding under-18 performances I've seen. He has the speed of a wingman and agility of a ruck-rover and also showed a lot of grit on a wet day."
Western Bulldogs recruiting manager Scott Clayton knows that Kreuzer will be long gone before the Bulldogs have a pick in the draft but he likes what he's seen.
"He finds the ball easier than most ruckmen I've seen and accumulates a lot of possession.," Clayton said.
Kreuzer has agility, can run 20m in 3.06sec and has recorded a beep test of 14.5, but he finds the increasing attention embarrassing..
"All I want to do is play footy. Footy is my life and I love everything about it. I can't wait for the championships to start," he said.
Joining Kreuzer at the titles, which are spread this year between Perth, Adelaide, Geelong and Princes Park, are Northern Knights teammates Trent Cotchin and Jack Grimes.
Both are highly rated onballers, with Cotchin tipped to be not far behind Kreuzer in the November draft.

draft. [/B]

Sounds like Kreuzer is the early monty for #1 pick, and Cotchin is gunna go in the first few as well. Something we probably already knew.

Is Cotchin like Brent Stanton?

I hope Kevin Sheehan is just comparing Cotchin's speed and endurance to Stanton's, because I would want a better footballer than Stanton if we have pick two.

Born: April 7, 1990
Height: 184cm
Weight: 81kg
From: Northern Knights/Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School

Sheehan says Trent Cotchin is a strongly-built midfielder with all the attributes required for a medium-sized midfielder/forward.

“He is strong in the contest and strong overhead and is super smart around the goals,” he said. “He reminds me a bit of [Essendon midfielder] Brent Stanton as a player with that speed/endurance combination.

Re: Is Cotchin like Brent Stanton?

Since the thread has become a bit of a Kreuzer cotchin comparison i was wondering what their respective personalities are like. Are they future captains? Are they outgoing or a bit quite??

Seeing Matthew Kreuzer goes to my school i suppose i would have a fair idea on his character :p

He seem's a pretty loud kinda guy not like a shy, quiet kid. And from the games i have seen him play he is pretty vocal on the field. Jack Grimes is the Knights captain and Kreuzer is Vice im pretty sure.

Hes comparing their physical attributes, which is a big compliment to Cotchin. Stanton is one of the best athletes in the AFL, has a massive tank and is very quick.

I know Stanton has speed and a great tank, but I'd want an elite game breaker like Deledio, Griffen, Smith, Wells or Walker for pick two than a player like Stanton. Stanton is a good young player but he'll never be in the same class as Dal Santo and the other players I've named.
