Aparently Big Knobes has been told that at least for the NAB Cup competition he will be the Tiges leading ruckman and has taken the news very well and is yes I'm gonna say it "Training The House Down", but he is looking to really stamp his name on the game with a big injury free pre season.

Good news... l'm actually a fan of the big fella and believe our side looks better with him in it. Big year for him, but 2005 he did well for us, so cant see why he cant become a key player in our side for the 3 years.

Even though he has copped a bagging, i seem to like to like the bloke too. I honestly think StKilda actually missed his services when he left. From all reports, he has been given the leading ruck duties so lets just hope he steps up to the challenge.

I am also another fan of this big man. If I was St Kilda, I would never have let him go. I mean, they play Blake who isn't even a ruckman - he's two short on most occasions. Especially when he faces up to Sandilands!! I thought he was really serviceable to you guys in 2005, but he got the second-year blues in last year and could't get injury-free - he must have been really buggered. He was meant to be a Blue but you guys had the pick in the PSD and plucked him up before we got the chance - but we got Eddie Betts!!:D
Should've got him in a trade or something.

:) KNOBEL is an excellent tap ruckman .... one of the best in the league. No arguments there.

The rap on Trent is his failure to contribute around the ground. Simply put, we can't afford to carry a guy who, tapouts aside, touches the ball four or five times a game. Heck, I was reading the official Richmond website the other day and they go to great lengths to publicise the fact he got 10 possession in four games. One would think 10 possessions might be a minimum requitement for a decent game.

He clearly needs to do more around the ground, particularly when Simmonds gets 20 plus possession most weeks.

Having said that, I hope he does improve his possession count and becomes a regular contributor. I don't think pattison or anyon else is ready to assume the ruck berth in Simmonds' absence!!

If knobel can get around 25 hitouts a game, a high percentage to advantage, in simmonds absence then getting less than 10 disposals isnt a big issue. If he can develop his handball skills and we have all of our quick players running past him, the fact that he cant kick isnt an issue at all. However, even if he does this when simmonds comes back, knobel will probably not keep his spot, because pattison is more versatile. In any case, thank god we have at least 5 players (simmo, knobs, patto, polak, graham) who can play ruck unlike hawthorn.

The Fremantle game is the proof what confidence can do to Knobel. Isn't that right IDGAF?
I'm assuming you're not talking about his last effort against Freo, MT. The one where he gave away a stupid free kick and a stupid 50 metre penalty within about 5 minutes of getting on the ground, then followed up with dropped marks and missing sitters in a worst on ground performance that pretty much cost us the match.

I don't mean to be a smart arse, but he has actually been injured and training aside from the group for the majority of the pre-season.....

He now has his chance to try and provide himself with a career short term.

However he is stuck at the number 2 ruckman. Prevents him from developing to his full potential.

Hope he can do something, Pattison is developing quickly

If Knobel was to stand up during the NAB games and make the ruck position hs own would it allow the Tiger tyhe luxury of playing Simmonds at CHF changing in the ruck when Knobel needs a breather.

Would a forward line of:

HF: Petts Simmo Meyer
FF: Brown Richo Kingsley

workout. It would give the Tigers 3 big men to go long to while still having the danger of Brown around their feet for the opposition to contend with. Would not put a lot of pressure on Simmo to rush back from his ankle. Or would you prefer to go with the line up that has been suggested elsewhere on this board of:

HF: Petts Richo Meyer
FF: Brown Schulz Kingsley

Simmonds injury could be a blessing in disguise ;). Hopefully we can win a few NAB games. Terry will see how important Knobels ruckwork is and hopefully Knobs can take some big marks and get some touches to get his confidence level up so he can do it consistently from Round 1

IMHO he is an excellent ruckman. His issues start when he has to handle the ball in general play. If he can turn that around he will become very very handy.
prolem is TT, at what point can you identify on how much a guy can improve? You're either born with skills and practical nous or you're not. How old is Knobel? IMO he's a bit old to be teaching skills to. It's like telling Glenn McGrath to improve his batting to be a No 7 - it's not gonna happen. He can improve but only to his level. Knobel is stuck in a holding pattern. His ruckwork is good, yes, but he gets so little of the football around the ground, that he's basically a mannequin in the centre square.

LIKE the look of that....definitely the way to go. Simmonds is best utilised in the ruck. Proved that last year without a shadow of a doubt!

Yeah but he kicked a fair few goals resting up forward...maybe now that hes slimmer and fitter than in 2005 he could be a lead up CHF playing basically the same game as this year except not taking the hitouts as often and staying in the forward half. That would solve alot of our problems, schulz could be trialled at CHB with polak at FB or something so we dont have to rely on gaspar. Our forwardline would be quite imposing...kingsley as 5th or 6th option sounds good. You'd really need depth to man up on us.

As long as we don't give him the ball. Hopefully he has 0 touches for the year :thumbsu:

We should give him the ball at every opportunity. Gotta get the most out of him and improve his game so he and Simmonds can both handle the ruck all year. Awesome ruck combo if Knobel can his game to top level.

If we use west coast as the model for success, they have cox, who can go forward to rest, and a pure tap ruckman in seaby who is pretty useless other than as a tap ruckman both in the side at any one time. So surely the combo of simmonds and a fully fit knobel comes close to that (simmonds isnt as good as cox but knobel is a better tap ruckman than seaby).

i`m with you , the WCE used to have Balls but then they went with Cox ... if we can get our knob fully fit we should be in for a big one :thumbsu:... Knobs is one of the better ball tappers going around and really assists our in and unders to take sieze innitiative
