Saw Trent has been delisted by Collingwood.

Wonder if his father will be miffed and he will want to come back to Hawthorn?

Is he worth a Rookie spot?

Any word on Chubbs Peterson whether he's likely to train with the team over summer.

Just noticed as well.

Lasted 1 year on their list. Poor kid, selling his soul for a senior spot.
Wonder if he's lost to the AFL world now or will someone give him a 2nd chance?

He's still training with the Pies judging by the photos of their training today, so I'd say

a) he's still got a year left of his draftee contract with the Pies that the Pies will have to pay out if Stubbs doesn't get picked up again
b) the Pies'll pick him up in the rookie draft if no-one does before them.

Well, all's well that ends well i guess. We failed with jack mahoney and collingwood failed with Trent stubs.

Yeah, I saw this too. I guess we made the right call not senior listing him. He has a year left on contract with Collingwood, so I'd suggest they are planning to rookie him. These NSW rookies are mostly very speculative pickups. It seems like a good program for developping footy in NSW, and helping some kids, with a modest chance of a club getting good player for free. Free in terms of not costing a draft pick, anyway. It was also a good way for us to get Will Langford onto our list, and in the process ensure that his younger and taller brother will agree to being a father/son for us.

I can't see us being very keen to have someone back at the club who's already burnt two chances at AFL and couldn't walk the walk, or stay on the straight and narrow*.

*Having mentioned quite a few times that he was so keen to repay the faith that the HFC put in him.

How dumb's Collingwood? Last year we rated him rookie value only and it took the Pie's a whole year to work that out.

The Pies used a position on a main list for a year for one of our ex NSW Scholarship players who now has no trade value, or interest, and now in all probability will be shifted to wither away on the rookie list before being delisted. Trent would want to be made of stern stuff to handle this demotion.

Well done to the Hawthorn recruiter's for rating him as a rookie last year, sticking to it, and not getting caught in a bidding war.

Yep. There were quite a few whispers of Stubbs being a bit of a loose cannon as he got closer and closer to eligibility for rookie listing, which ultimately caused Hawthorn to start to doubt whether the kid we first thought was going to be something special, was ever going to get it all together.

We made the right call.

The Hype on this kid reached "Gunston" proportions on here if i remember and i remember correctly there were claims that Collingwood had done a number on us by taking him in the draft

Edit: Let me quantify that by saying the kid had talent obviously there were other reasons for him not fulfilling his potential

Let's hope we did the same with Menegola

Yeah, As a 16yr old he was touted as being the best junior in NSW. We scooped him up and from there the potential built a fair bit of hype. It stuck with him the entire time he was on the scholarship program(even though a large percentage of us had never even seen him kick a football).

As he got closer to the actual drafting age he had a few issues of commitment that had people at the club wondering if he had what it takes. Went AWOL for a bit, was involved in a car smash from memory.....soon we decided that he might not be the player we had hoped and while those at the club had changed their mind about the boy, plenty on here were still quite adamant we had a genuine star in our grasp. Hence the meltdown last year when we didn't offer him a rookie, or senior list spot. Who were we to know that he'd not put his best foot forward.

He was obviously a talented kid. So much so that Collingwood thought they'd have a crack and see how he went, but ultimately, as we all have seen plenty of times before, not all kids can translate being a brilliant 16yr old into an AFL career.

You can say that again. He is not the first and he certainly won't be the last. Thats why you have to take the hype about young kids as just that hype. They haven't done anything yet and they are yet to prove themselves. I hope the hype around Gunston doesn't put any undue pressure on the kid. Especially from our supporters. Give the kid a chance to grow into his role. He is at a new club new game plan. He might take time to adjust who knows.

I'd suggest that the our list management people made the call on Stubbs based on his maturity and there assessment of where he was at. A rookie list position was where they saw him being at this year - Collingwood's decision to delist him would vindicate that decision.

Didn't I read something on here mid year about how Bucks loves this kid?

Found it.

I think Stubbs was injured for a fair chunk of the year and has been back playing the last 3-4 weeks. Dont quote me on that though...read it on BF somewhere a while ago.

Buckley loves this kid apparently and will persist eventhough he hasn't been too impressive so far.

Yes I am aware SodaPop says not to quote him.

Trent Stubbs was last seen having coffee and a heated discussion with Roddy27 at a secret location somewhere near Rosebery.:D

Yeah, was just interested a few months ago to see how he was progressing.
Most the info was from the Pies VFL board.

If you go and read the delistings thread on heir board, most won't miss him but the general consensus is that they'll rookie list him coz he's still got a year to go on his contract.

Pretty much where's he's at and was a great call from the hawks last year.
Needs to pull the trigger next year or he can kiss his career goodbye. Maybe his old man has a better option for him **rolleyes**

I guess the members of this board have a right to gloat a little. Trent certainly did not endear himself to the supporters.

Similar story with young Menegola - offered a rookie spot, but felt he was worth a senior list spot. We will not be threatened, and refuse. So the kid walks.

No place at Hawthorn for either of them.

I hardly think its threatening (without knowing the inside story). If the guy thinks he can make a senior list, while I would love him to hang around, I don't blame him for leaving to try to better his chances else where! I hope he gets back to the Hawks as he looked like a talent!

Disagree. We paid him for a year and he got injured and added very little value to the club. In my opinion, there was nothing to suggest he wouldn't make it so owed us at least one year of full footy.

I know it works both ways and i had no problem with Skipper rolling the dice, but Menegola is a kid and we have invested heavily in him for doughnuts in return.

Call it what ever you want, Molly. The result is the same. There is a fair chance that a Perth club got in his ear and he simply decided to walk. However it went down, I doubt the Hawks are in a position to re-consider him for a place on the list. If you walk out once, the door should be closed.

I actually wish Trent, his family all the very best for the future, and hope he becomes a 200 game AFL player.

The gloating I have is for the Hawthorn Football Club over the Collingwood Football Club as they got this one totally wrong. It's a pretty drastic move to delist a kid from the main list with a year to go on his contract. I can't think of too many over the years. He may well be rookied at the Pies, but he and his family will be pretty pissed off and it's not a great way to focus onward to the 2012 season.

Sam's situation is a bit different as he wasn't a NSW scholarship holder.

I look it as a testament to the the development of some rookies, eg Sirra to Nth Melbourne, Breust getting an upgrade, Menegola looks as though he will end up on a list somewhere else, I'd be a bit upset if it was a Melbourne club, but it may be back home to WA.
