Listened to 'Rush Hour' this evening. When I turned it on, it was the end of a song, and then the interview with Gary Lyon. My first reaction was 'ugh not Lyon' but I enjoyed the interview. Then the segment with Jars was great. Caught the start of the Primus interview as well, and it was fantastic.
All up, I rate Rush Hour, and is far better than the 5AA Sports Show. For starters, Ditts and Roo were having genuine conversation and discussion about the issues in sport (predominantly football), rather than Rowey going OTT and Cornesy opening his mouth to change feet (and he's gotten 10 times worse since KG got boned). Ditts and Roo are a hell of a lot more respectful towards their guests than Cornesy. I also think Ditts and Roo are a good balance (with Ditts for the Power and Roo for the Crows).
Also, there's a sports update every 15 minutes (including traffic report), whereas the traffic report on 5AA is only every half an hour. A great format because in amongst the sports discussion, you're getting the latest traffic info (and seeing as the bulk of listeners will be tuning in their cars on their way home from work, this is important).
Although you do get music in between the convo, I actually don't mind it - far better than the endless ads you get on 5AA, and MMM have decent music. Even with the music, with segments like the sports update, there's more sport content on Rush Hour than the 5AA Sports Show.
Great job MMM, I'll now be a regular listener to this show. With the number of people who loathe the 5AA Sports Show but listen to it because it's the only drive time sports show in town, I reckon Rush Hour will be a success and will take a fair chunk of 5AA's ratings.
