I'm referring to TBA May, who took 5/9, then fought valiantly for 42* at Adelaide against the West Indies as Australia list by a run, 1992/93
So the answer is to be announced in May?

:)

I still can't figure out who you are referring to, but I have discovered John Lever (21Tests) achieved his bests (53 & 7-46) versus India in 1976-77 on his Test debut.

He only played 10 tests, but Tony Dodemaide also achieved his highest score (50) and best figures (6/58) on his test debut.

In fact, his career figures are very good: 34w @ 28.03. It makes you wonder why he didn't play more?

Can you name the seven bowlers who took their 1000th first class wicket in Australia? Only two of them are Aussies.

No, I can't. :)

I'd have no idea.

But I'll start thinking.

Perhaps I need to give one clue. Probably the most obscure player who took his 1000th wicket in Australia was South African all rounder Charlie "Buck" Llewellyn on the 1910-11 tour. There are six others, three dead, three still living.

Sheesh - I don't think may Aussies would have taken 1000 wickets without a decent County career. maybe Grimmett might have (he had 3 tours of the UK where he would have taken 100 wickets each season).

I suppose in the 1880s-1890s we were touring the UK pretty regularly - every 2 years or so - so someone like Charlie Turner could have done it.

I'll say Grmmett and Turner for the Aussies. For the Non-Aussies - well, could be anybody - Tate, Lock, Statham, - no idea.

Given there are over 200 players to have taken 1000 f-c wickets, this one's a bit difficult.

I did a quick extraction of some of the Aussies on the list though, if that helps.
Dooland, Giffen, McKenzie, Warne, Tribe, McDonald, Grimmett, Trott (not sure that's all of them).

So for the two Aussies at least I'll go Giffen and Warne.

NFI about the rest.

Giffen and Dooland were the two Aussies. Dooland finished his county career and came back for one last season with his native South Australia because he wanted to live back in Australia.
Harold Larwood somewhat ironically took his 1000th wicket on the Bodyline tour of 1932-33.
The last player to take his 1000th wicket in Australia was Courtney Walsh in 1992-93, his victim being Ian Healy in the Test West Indies won by one run.

You can probably guess the last two in the list. Two overseas cricketers who played state cricket during the 1980s.
