Trojan Dialers

Recently I think I have been attacked by a dialer. I think it rang through after I had disconnected to the Internet and while I was running a Norton Antivirus scan. The irony.

I came back to the computer after about 45 minutes and the connection icon was on and I couldn't get it off. So I pulled the plug and have been ****ting myself waiting for the bill.

I just have a few questions.

1. Does anyone know how long the bill usually takes to arrive?

2. On my Optus all my Optus bills fax line and phone line, it says something that "direct call access to Diego Garcia, Sao Tome and Guinnea Baesau has been removed". This sounds very dialer like to me and I was wondering if anyone else has gotten this message?

3. Has anyone else suffered this fate? If so please tell me about this, because I am keen (with some help) to try and stamp these dialers out.


Just as a general warning, take notice of the threats dialers cause and take precautionary measures.


1. Block international calls and 1900 numbers if feasible

2. Download Antivirus software and run the damn thing

3. Download programs like Adaware and Spybot (both can be found at download.com)

4. Go to a great site called Jason's Toolbox that is able to test your system to how prone you are of infecting viruses and trojans

5. Don't surf for pr0n sites (Almost eliminates chances of getting trojans but some may say its worth the risk)

I am sure most of you have seen/heard this elsewhere and thought it can't happen to me, but it does and it will if your not careful. Even if your computer is off, you can get charrged by dialers. I recommened disconnecting your phone line after using the internet straight away.

A family member has been using the net for a few things - looking up free ringtones or something. A dialer has somehow installed/loaded it's exe file onto c:/windows. It also has an icon on the desktop. When double-clicked, it comes up with a prompt warning that "connecting to this connection costs a certain rate etc".

I used Ad-Adware and that doesn't seem to pick it up. As far as I can tell, I can only find find the exe file and the desktop/start-up icon.

What should I do? I don't think just deleting the exe file and icon would 100% get rid of the "dialer".

The name of the icon/program is SMS-Stadt. The filename is "SMS-Stadt[sst-10925,de,1].exe".

On my computer 4 websites selling cams have added themselves to my favorites. When ever I delete them they keep coming back. I've deleted my temporrary files(all of them) AND scanned with ad-aware and spybot, but they can't seem to find it. Also My.find.com keeps setting to my homepage, and they can't detect it!

Is it possible that the lavasoft pop-up stopper and hi-jack blaster I downloaded are actually trojans? And why can't spybot detect all this crap?

Last, I keep getting emails from unknown email addresses sending me a file attachment, and all the message says is :here is the attachment" I delete those. Could it be a possible virus?

these virus threats do not have to come from unknown email addresses as most will have spread through a computer of someone who has you in there address book and they are usually unaware of the virus coming out of there computer

strangest one i had recently actually came from bigfooty and looked like a post or thread reply.

nortons did catch it though.

Google for them and you'll find out. Use the Google Toolbar with pop-up blocker too.

Rang Telstra today to see whether the dialer used an override code and charged me through Telstra, other than my current service provider which is Optus.

They couldn't tell me if there has been a call as they only charge these sort of things every three months? WTF? Is there a conspiracy so you can't find out about these charges? There is nothing you can do but wait for the bill.

God knows if I had connected before this one time, because if I had I (my parents and I) could be up for thousands.

How can this sort of stuff happen? It doesn't seem to me that anyone is doing anything about these companies that are just racking in the cash with telephone companies saying that it's your fault and your up for the bill.

I'd rather a virus wipe my hard-drive than this S*hit.

no zeke i dont its just that these people who post on here are looking for help with computer problems, not arrogant well worn rhetoric cliches about your mac .

simple as that.

if you have no useful help, go post elsewhere on the boards where even i think some of the answers are yes witty or on the ball

I guess they aren't then. But i read spybot and it said that theweb pages i have have probably been hijacked by is an "intelligent hijacker" who adds a small file to reload it's self (the IE page) every time my puter starts up. So how do I get rid of, or find this file?

Anyone know? I'm not to keen on reinstalling my whole puter stuff.

Do yourself a favor and beg, borrow or steal/download a copy of Pest Patrol. It monitors your system in real-time like anti-virus software and pest definition updates are frequently available. Stops spyware etc. dead in its tracks.
