I don't think this will be a popular opinion and I believe Trout is an extremely talented recruiter but I have a belief that we have recruited a really strong list of nice players that are all a bit the same.
Jimmy Webster is probably the only player on our list with a bit of the old mongrel in him and we are crying out for a dose of X Factor.
There comes a time when change is needed to deliver some a point of difference.
Happy to be shown why my thoughts are wrong.

I reckon its bit early to judge.

Give them some time and by rd 20 if we are going backwards then first in line should be coaches, development staffs and then players.

Recruitment team's job is to find the potential players according to the requirements given by the coaches. But if players are not developed properly then its not recruitment teams fault.

trout is not the issue, nor is ameet or the rest of the recruitment team. if you look at who've they've taken in that draft and where they've done pretty well with what they've had

they've picked the eyes out of the draft. i'd give them an A-

the issue is our development system and football program. it stinks!!!! my gutfeel is we're developing a middle tier side and not one thats going to seriously contend for a long period of time. you know when you're good at developing players. you can see it in them physically and you can see it when they play. you see the improvements. we look like battlers in all aspects. then you see blokes leave, go to other clubs in and one to two god damn off-seasons they look like bonafide AFL players ready to rip the season apart. then they start performing

its bloody damning and we've been sitting on our hands for 3 ****in seasons now watching it happen

I think our player development is actually good. If you look at lonie Dmac m, Acres Ross Rice Sinclaire lonie even Templeton etc every year at vfl level they are getting better to the point of elite at VFL level. I maintain and have said for a few years now is that Richo refuses to play these young players in the midfield. Since sinclaire has come in he has only been on a wing. For gods sake if someone like minchington dominates at vfl level on the ball give them a chance there on game day. It is so important you allow them at least a little time on the ball otherwise obviously there not going to get better at afl level. Or at the very least it will take longer because those players need to get used to the new position. Also it means that when steven and armo were out we were required to rely on these younger players but because Richo never allows them time on the ball they were inexperienced. It is my biggest criticism of Richo and is one reason why even if we got bontempelli or merret they would not have developed to the same level. We would'Ve no doubt made them play in the forward line first at afl level and maybe after three years give them a chance on the ball it's also a reason I feel we never have mods come in and dominate straight away.

Sorry DopeyBJ but I cant agree. Trout doesnt have a perfect record but I think he is just in the position now where he has learnt from past mistakes and can turns those picks into certainies. I agree we need more aggressive types but the club has made a real effort to only draft high quality individuals which is no doubt due to past indescretions by players. If we can find some players with an edge like SPP from last years draft it would add something which is lacking.
