More than likely to be traded, as we already have Sandilands & JLO. Snake pinch hit as a FF, & whilst he kicked over 30 goals, we could hardly call it a success. Sydney are the favourite for his services, in a 3 club deal that may see Josh Carr return home, but who knows?

What do you guys have to offer, besides the obvious Heath Black, who we will likely try to get with a 2nd round draft pick?

You reckon Plugga? I think that the 2nd rounder was enough for Black last year, but that the saints would want a bit more for him this year. Maybe now that they have come along considerably more than us he may want to stay there for a few years and give the big one a crack with them. Salary cap may be an issue for them - by all accounts we will be quite comfortable with our TPP for the next couple of years.

What would the Saints be prepared to give up??

Don't know if we would have any players for trade that the Dockers would be interested in.... Our first rnd pick might be available. Also a player such as Troy Schwarze or Brett Moyle who could be added to picks.. They aren't world beaters but both (Schwarze in particular) managed to play games for a team who wasn't travelling to badly at the time. They could be added as sweetners to a pick.. Black i'm fairly sure wants to stay now, and you'd think after the year he has had, the Saints would be keen to keep him. I don't know what you guys think Simmonds is worth?? I think our first rnd pick would nearly get a deal done??

Maybe the first rounder - although that won't be till around 16 or something will it, so it's not hugely tempting??
Maybe Freo could then package the saints pick 16 and someone (number of possibilities) to trade for a top 10 pick, as our first one is not till #12.
Maybe then that + someone else for Josh Carr.

aahhhh... the speculation. Who knows what they (ie the powers that be) are really thinking...

There's no way that Freo will be wanting a 1st round draft pick that's not a Top 5 pick, we have enough youth with Murphy, Dunn, Campbell, Mundy et al, so I'm 100% positive Freo wouldn't trade Simmonds for a draft pick.

We'd want someone good in return, Simmonds is a special talent in the ruck, & would get better playing in that possie, unfortunately for us, JLO just didn't cut it, as a FF, & we had to try Simmonds there. Now JLO is our #1 choice in the ruck after an outstanding 2nd half to the year, & Simmonds is on the outer.

If Freo do get rid of Simmonds, I'd hope it would end up getting us a Josh Carr, a Jason Saddington, a Daniel Kerr or a Tyson Stenglein in the end.

Fingers x'ed

Heath Black, if he wants to comeback, we'd take him with open arms & hope the fax machine was working correctly!! What would u take for him?

Would have thought Snake to Sydney or Richmond probably give us the best deal; they seem to be most keen bout him. I would think that one of those would need to give a player or pass on a player to get a player Port would accept - Will be a 3 or way deal. Carr is ours if he wants, I dont think Choco will push his luck to far this time and will play hard ball up to a point - 1 Stevens makes a point; a Stevens and a Carr wouldnt sit right with members or the powers that be; practicalities need be had.

Just something to note, CC knows his career is on the line next year. He won't be trading quality away for youth. Simmonds, if he departs, will depart for an accomplished midfielder (Hadley or Carr - Some 3 way deal).

I also wouldn't be surprised to see our 1st rounder being traded for another midfielder. CC has identified the problem this year. He's going to do his damnest to rectify it, or bye bye coaching if we miss out on the finals.

Hit the nail on the head there. CC knows what he needs to appease the club and the supporters.

Tho the cynic in me makes me curious to see if he aint already on a promise of an extra year resulting from Hawthorns overtures.

Schwarze is a crab and would struggle to get a game in most teams. He's in the saints team due to team balance and he plays a role. Out of that structure he would struggle. Same with Moyle IMO.

Like Stuart Anderson after winning the premiership with North and could bearly get a game with Freo when we were crap.

Black would cost too much now... don't want him for more than a second rounder and I don't think that would get it done any more.

Yep. Agree with all that. Connolly has to fast track a bit to keep his job and keep the players, board, members happy.

Just hope he doesn't fast track with '04 versions of Bond and Fletcher (who was a great player for us but cost us the draft pick that got Brissy Luke Power).

Does getting Hadley scare anyone else?

Just some bad experiences from recruiting gun midfielders from the lions and watching them perform below par in a lesser team :)

Although Hadley is more of a ball winner so its probably not the same situation.. still always crosses my mind when people mention a trade for him.

Anyway.... isn't Brown and Bradshaw a fair forward setup?

I think the Lions are a little wary of trading with us, they weren't too happy at losing a young gun player (even if he hasn't lived up to potential). Plus, they probably want to hold onto Hadley to help replace Voss, Hart and McCrae in a few seasons.

A report in The Age today has Simmonds talking with Richmond & Roos, do these clubs have anything to offer Port for Josh Carr?

Ottens?

Won't happen. We would be getting shafted
could be worse
i mean there is always the possibilty that we do what you did with us in regards to gasper a few years back and threaten to take Simmonds in the psd and you get nothing for him. :D

Besides that Stinger for Simmonds is pretty much a win/win i would have thought.

Cheers!

I agree that would be a fair trade we need a tagging midfielder and Richmond need a ruckman win / win for everyone.
Though I would still prefer J Carr

Stenglein might be a valuable aqusition for the Subi reserves. Do Geelong need a ruckman, I wouldnt mind Joel Corey despite being tainted by East Perth.

Yeah, I'd want J. Carr but Stenglein would still be better than nothing.

I would only trade Simmonds in a three way deal to get carr (with draft picks exchanged etc). If we can't get Carr then I'd keep simmo.

I wouldn't mind picking up armstrong in the trade period.

Simmonds a key position player that can play either end of the field and ruck effectively is something that almost all sides in the competition bar a few are crying out for.
Stenglien is a tagger....and a effective tagger...but none the less a tagger...J Carr while a tagger adds biff and is more offensive than Stenglien.
Furthermore does Ottens really have that higher a value than Simmonds?
I mean thus far it would be hard to tell the difference between the two would it not..potential aside.

One Melee Dodd would be better value to us as Stinger has made it clear that he wants to play at the budgies. We want players that want us.

Besides we don't want any domestics when Chads partner at the brownlow gets jealous.
