IMO he hasnt changed that much from his last year at Freo, so I dont really know what all this hype is about.
Most players weigh heavier earlier in the year but lose 5 - 6 kg during a season.
I'll wait and see before jumping on the "Simmonds is the greatest" train just yet.

Simmonds was huge last year at Freo too (I think his weight was listed as 102kg at the beginning of the season), but despite his height and bulk and double black belt and penchant for snakes... he really does not (or did not) impose himself on contests or use his natural attributes (ie height, weight and "fighting" ability) as well as he could have / should have. Not saying he was soft cos he wasn't, or that he should have acted outside the rules by decking guys with karate chops left right and centre, just that he could have imposed himself a lot more than he did. A well-timed hip and shoulder or shirt-front would have done some (legal) damage and perhaps given some of the younger, smaller, less physically imposing guys an example to follow. But he never did.
I wish him well, was sorry to see him go, but not sorry that the club didn't give him 5 years as IMHO, that's a very long and risky contract length in this day and age. Player is well protected, but club can end up getting shafted. Hope it works out well for your club and him.

Troy now is a much better footballer than 4 years ago.
As TW said. In Richo, Stafford, Simmonds and Knoble we have some good bodies to protect our young side.

perhaps but I'm not comparing him to 4 years ago, I'm comparing him to last season, if he has a season similar to last year I'll be happy but its definately nothing to beat ones own chest over.
