Hi, Hi,
yeah ok so I've recently bought a new LCD HD TV for myself. It is currently in my room but has no aerial...just connected to my PS3, being used for movies and games atm.
But what I really want is to get the TV set up to watch...uh...TV! now we have an aerial on top of our house but I have no connection in my room...I could probably get one put in by a mate and connect it up. No worries there.
But what I wanna know is that my best option? Because it is just the analogue set up up there as far as i know..
With all this talk about HDTV and the like I was wondering what's the deal there? Do I need anything special to get that working or what?
I even thought maybe a set top box would be the answer but not too sure what that does and what it would require.
Any help is appreciated!

You need a digital aerial. A set top box is useless in this instance because you

a) have an HD TV already
b) set top boxes need a digital aerial anyway

You can get a connection put in for your aerial, but if it's an analogue aerial, you will only get the analogue signal. Call around a few places, it's not too expensive to get a digital aerial installed (Try Antenna Masters - got one via them a few years ago and they throw in a couple of connections where you want them as well).

Correct me if im wrong but not all HDTVs have inbuilt tuners?

I need a new outlet in my room, but might wait till FoxtelHD is released. I rang up Mr Antenna and they quoted me $85.00 for a new point, which isn't too bad.

In the meantime im using something similar to this ;

Not perfect, but comes up very well on the 42" Panasonic.

Not so. My 20 year-old $50 Tandy gives me a digital signal strength of 90% which is more than adequate. I imagine many people are tricked into installing a "digital" antenna unnecessarily.

True. You do not need a "digital antenna".....you just need an antenna that will pick up the signal. If your current antenna gives you a decent analogue picture you can rest assured it will pick up the digital signals being broadcast by our free to air networks:thumbsu:
