A couple of months ago me and my Mrs drove to Perth to see my parents to tell them that we where expecting our second child and to take my daughter to the zoo.

When we where at the zoo, it wasn't a busy day, but damn did we see alot of twins, it seemed like every time we turned around BAM another set of twins. We joked that maybe we are having twins as there was that many.

I didn't think much of it until we had our 12 week scan and found out we are having twin. Then last night, my mrs read out a paragraph from a twin book she was reading... now this is some spooky shizen.

"In addition to physical symptoms, many mothers of multiples report and unexplainable hunch or vague suspicion early in pregnancy. Often it is triggered by unusual circumstances that bring multiples to the forefront of their attention. Perhaps they dream about having twins, or find themselves running across several sets of multiples in a public place. "
Can anybody explain this? or have had something similar happen?

I may have just watched too many Simpsons episodes, but whenever I see twins my first thought is...Ooh, twins. Which one of you is the evil one?

Saw a doco about some Twin town where basically everyone born there is a twin

They blamed some nazi doctor who was experimenting on the town back in the day

Coincidence. The only way you can 'feel' you are going to have twins, is if there's a prevalence in either of your families for them, then your odds increase slightly. So I was happy when one of my younger brothers (one of two non-identical twins, with me not the other) had twins himself before I had kids - I was relieved. Although if you struck a boy-girl pair on your first lot of kids I that'd be pretty good, instant family and no need to try for any more.

I have a twin sister. It's scary how many people ask when I tell them that I have a twin sister, "Are you identical?":eek:o_O

I'm in the same boat. It is ridiculous how often the question gets asked.

I'd say its fairly explainable - probably every pregnant mother has thoughts or dreams of twins at some point, or multiple times during pregnancy, and when it is discovered they are having twins then they probably think "oooo i was having a dream about twins a couple of months ago"

If they don't have twins then there it's probably never really thought about again.

This is partially true. If a man is part of a twin, it doesn't increase the chances of twins with his partner as identical twins don't run in families, and appear to occur at random. On top of this, the twins that do run in families, non-identical, only run in families on the mother's side.
On your second point, I have always wanted to have twins. No idea why. I think I would just like to mess with people.

Similar to when my clearly different looking twin brothers are standing side by side, and someone will ask them "Are you two identical?"

Just have a look! One has brown eyes the other has green! One is relatively tall, one is relatively short! And I could go on and on and on..

Has anybody seen the results of two sets of identical twins having kids with other identical sets of twins?

I WANT TO KNOW

This is what you're asking?

So Boy A and Boy B are identical, and Girl A and Girl B are identical twins?

And Boy A marries Girl A, and have Baby A.
Boy B marries Girl B, and have Baby B.

Would Baby A and Baby B be identical, despite being cousins??

Hmm..that's an interesting one.

It would be unlikely that they would be identical. The children would take different traits from the different parents.
E.g. Baby A will take the blue eyes from Girl A, where as Baby B will take the brown eyes from Boy B.
They may have similar features, but will not be identical. As Babies are essentially 50% Mum and 50% dad. It is extremely unlikely that the same features would be taken from the mothers and the fathers. Unfortunately. Would be amazing if cousins were identical.

Since we all know that one twin is always evil, and the OP and his wife had their twin revelation at the zoo (without doubt near the jackals display) it seems squarely obvious that HardCaucausian and his Mrs are only a few months away from bringing the Anti-Christ into the world. People, don't roll over any long term investments. Sell short.

So shouldn't this be over at the bullshit/politics/religion board so all the atheists there can tell you that you obviously aren't going to have any children at all?

i'm pretty sure this is right - identical twins don't have to look alike or even be the same sex. the "identical" refers to them being split from the same egg. non-identical come from different eggs. obviously coming from the same egg increases the chances of the twins looking alike but you can have identical twins who don't look alike, and non-identical twins who look alike.

a quick scan of goog's suggests this is correct but can't be arsed going in depth.

I'm a twin too. The thing I hate is when people think we have to be the same in every way imaginable. If I got a dollar for everytime people would ask that, i'd be a rich man.

Can you play in the ruck?

How about this one;

Boy A and Boy B are identical.

Boy A has a child with Girl A.

Girl A accidently falls in love with Boy B (who is identical to the father of her child)

Girl A has a child with Boy B.

Half brother/cousin identical?
