Just quietly guys, I'm abit of a secret fan of your club.

Just wanted to know what the setup was with your Cheersquads.

Been to a few games between us now at the G and I've noticed you guys have one Cheersquad that sits behind the goals, and another that sits on the opposite end in the pocket.

Anyone know what the deal is with that?

Just interested, all the best for the year and all.

Apparently one is a rebel cheersquad that was a result of a big disagreement amongst the main cheersquad last year.

Sounds a bit tedious if you ask me.

Anyone want to start a third one? No pom-poms, no banners, all emo all the time.

Emo would be a fair theme this year, we can turn up and slash our wrists together.

On a slighly different topic, who remembers back in 1997 (possibly one of the thrashings we got off Colingwood or North) when our cheer squad didn't put the banner up before the game for the players to run through. Instead, they unfurled it on level four on the Southern Stand in the last quarter.

Hahaha, you can imagine what that fight would've been like.

For an insight, go to your local kindergaten and watch the little kids have an argument. That's probably the IQ level we're talking here. I sat with a mate at the back of the north cheer squad on saturday (he's a north fan), and fair dinkum, I'm always amazed at the number of absolute deadshits who sit behind the goals. I wouldn't do it justice to put into words how stupid those halfwits are.

Is it just me or is the whole cheer squad thing a bit 1982? Do we really need banners with terrible poetry, pom poms and people chanting <team name> *clap* *clap* *clap* in the 21st century?

I suggest a barmy army style squad whereby we don't watch the game and just drink and sing

As long as you're not standing behind me go nuts.

I like to wallow in self pity with some peace and quiet :(

The worst thing I ever saw in a cheersquad was a St. Kilda fan with a jacket that said "CHEER SQUAD OFFICIAL" on the back. Why would you publicise that?

Its tradition Merc.

Personally I think one of the greatest things about AFL is that all the fans are mixed in together and you can get all sorts, something that could never happen in the EPL without mass brawls erupting every 5 minutes.

I was thinking something along the lines of the typical soccer chants.

To the tune of Yellow Submarine:

'We all love you Paul McNamee *clap clap* Paul McNamee *clap clap* Paul McNamee *clap clap*'

Or to the tune of You Are My Sunshine:

'You are my Juicy, my only Juicy, you make me happy when you take a hanger, you'll never know dear how much I love you so please don't take my Juicy away!'

That's hilarious.

Rebel cheeersqaud? Sounds like something out of Star Wars lol.

Collingwood used to have two cheersquads. Eddie had to reunite them. That would have bene a thrilling meeting.

Meanwhile speaking of cheer squads when we played St. Kilda in 1999 (Luke Williams' debut - glory glory) some pissed Saints fan ran over to their cheersquad and tried to pump everyone up. They duly told him to ____ off and it almost turned into a brawl. Great moments.

IIRC, our cheersquad always used to be in the forward pocket in the Olympic stand, where the red seats were before the renovations. Could never figure out why they were there as opposed to behind the goals, and I can't remember when they moved places. Although I do remember Woewodin & Yze constantly pumping their fists towards the red seat area after a goal - Dees' supporters owned that area.
