It wasn't all doom and gloom. I reckon after tonight we've confirmed a couple of core AFC BigFooty board beliefs.

1. Clearly NAB Cup Form is no indicator of real season form. We were poor in the preseason, looked lethargic and stagnant, displayed poor skills and got opened up at the back. You compare that to tonight - like chalk and cheese.

2. Our Forward line looks a lot better without Kurt Tippett. For all his contested marking ability, Tippett just couldn't read the game, didn't lead and to top it off kicked terribly for goal. You compare that to tonight with all the fast leading, the clever bi-play between forwards, the reading of the play and the deadly accuracy in front of the sticks. It was like a breath of fresh air.

So a disappointing night for the Crows, but a couple of big ticks for the AFC BigFooty board.

Stick to fun quirky internet forum games for your threads Carl. Much more entertaining.
See, this thread isn't actually mine. I'm simply quoting (directly) my fellow posters.

From midway through the first quarter I knew it was going to get ugly.

Not to mention our poor home record in round 1. Tippet would have made no difference tonight, the mifield was terrible!

Reckon it would've looked a lot like the Sydney QF last year if Tippett (and Callinan) had played. Poorly aimed long ball to outnumbered contest after outnumbered contest with Fletcher (standing in for LRT) collecting every loose ball and rebounding beautifully.

We just need a strong third option.

Agree with this. We could have had Lockett and God senior up forward and still lost.

Haven't been smashed in the clearances like that for a long time

And all the goals we gave away in the goalsquare. This has been a problem for us for many years. When we play awful, we give away way too many easy goals.

I'd laugh... if it weren't so true! :(

We claim we like quick ball movement, yet we push our forwards so far up the ground, if we win the footy in the D50 we have to wait for our forwards to push back up the ground just so we have something to kick to.

To have effective quick ball movement, you can't have all 17 other players within kicking distance of the kicker.

In fact, we have so many people pushing into our opponents D50 that we effectively flood ourselves on the rebound. There's no room for our options up the ground to lead into, so we just have to bomb to a pack. Newsflash: we don't have any pack marks any more, Walker and Jenkins are good one on one and Jacobs is Matthew Clark Mark II!

We have become a side that unless we win the centre clearance is absolutely impotent. We have no genuine system coming out of defense, it's just kick and pray! Our only answer to this is to select more outside running types, quality Sando, not quantity!

Same amount of scoring shots. Bad kicking is bad footy.
We kick straight we win.

We win more contested ball. We win.

Essendon wernt that great we just played shocking.

So we play better then we'll go better?

Novel thinking. You might be on to something.
