I think it's a flow on effect. Good delivery to the forwards means if they dont mark they bring it to ground where these 2 should be front & centre. At the moment so much delivery is going left right & center that it doesn't even give them a chance to do what they should be.

Also I think Jetta has overtaken Davey as "fumbles".

time to cut this. every single small forward is a front runner. that's not their fault, it's just the way it is. nevertheless, we don't have to play two of them, we don't have to play two front runners up forward. dump one of them pls. ty

Do you think Winderlich should replace either Jetta or Davey ?

...so they're front-runners?

of course. i think monfries has a place in there too. so one of those two go out. i guess i prefer replacing davey, but don't mark me down either way. just one of them has to go, i just don't see it how it handles up in a grand final that we don't have the better of...

Winderlich shouldn't count towards this quota because he's smart, and he's capable of having an impact regardless of midfield pressure. I'm with Phone, play Jetta, if not then Davey, if not then Dell'Olio. Maybe when we get a consistent midfield we can worry about playing 2 of them.

winderlich can take contested marks so... i mean, that's the way you wanna do it, one total small forward, and one with pace and good marking skills and what not. winderlich and (X) of Davey/Jetta is totally perfect. Davey trying to take contested marks...not so perfect. it's also why i haven't quite ruled out Dell. but I don't have a firm knowledge of his marking skills

I liked the Malthouse theory he used at Collingwood with the small forwards, if your not tackling, handling the ball cleanly and playing with intensity your out!!
Sure makes for competitive competition between the smalls cause if there abit off they just get thrown away to easily.

Are people happy with Jetta's progression in the Game?

going into the Carlton elimination final last year we had Jetta, Davey, Reimer and Colyer. I thought that we could only afford to have 2 of the 4 in the side.
I think we should still have Jets in... i don't know... i'm sad (and still drunk).

I don't know why this is an issue after last night.

Both Jetta and Davey were among our better players.

The only thing I would change is maybe adding Jetta properly into the midfield rotation.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it is really an issue either but if I was going to drop one of them it would have to be Jetta for his lack of discipline. Two 50 metre penalties is not good enough at all.

Milne, Betts, Harvey, Akermanis have all turned games, on numerous occasions, despite their midfield being beaten.

Also, key forwards struggle when their midfield sucks.
Come to think of it, so do most defenders.

Notice how we've conceded a lot more since we've stopped dominating centre clearances and inside fifties?

EVERYBODY IS A FRONT RUNNER

So you agree, that midfield dominance is paramount; that without it, it's much harder (yet not impossible) for the guys at either end of the ground to do their job?

What's the issue then?

Some days they'll rise above it (I'd argue Davey did last night; Jetta didn't), some days they won't (I'd argue Hurley did last night; Gumbleton and Crameri didn't).

Nothing new.

for me an ideal set up in terms of smalls would be licka playing the monfries lead up role, davey playing the deeper traditional forward pocket role, and jetta playing more of a half forward flank, because when he's on, he can cut a team to ribbons when he gets up the ground, which davey can't do as well.

monfries is just a full forward in a gnome's body.

I'd argue it's just unnecessarily to play two of them, and that in the future another player that can be rotated through the midfield would be a more sensible option for the team. You don't play 7 tall defenders just because. I don't see the point of playing two small forwards, particularly given we don't have a good midfield anyway

What's the difference, though?

We were carrying one tall in the forward line last night, in hindsight.

If the midfield dominates, so does the team, generally.

If they're on top, Davey and Jetta can feast, like they were earlier in the year. If they're not on top, they may or may not.

Same goes for Crameri (earlier in the year: now), same goes for Hooker.

Davey in better form, Jetta still doesnt hit the scoreboard enough. It pains me to say coz I really like leroy but he offers very little.

Fully fit I would have licha and monfries ahead of him.

Having said that injuries and list depth still means they are both best 22 for now.
