Position: Key forward
State: Queensland
State League Club: Brisbane Academy
Height: 194m

A traditional key forward who is a strong marking key forward. Applying plenty of scoreboard pressure consistently for both the Brisbane Lions Academy and Allies, Gallop was able to provide a strong target inside 50. While not receiving a Draft Combine invitation, Gallop did enough throughout the year to remain an AFL Draft chance.

After the 3 way on the Goldy, I came back here n watched Ty's highlights. We have a star in the making here - like Logan a natural forward.

Big boots, but I got a bit of a young Lockett vibe.

Thanks Crusha. Some nice glimpses of Ty’s ruck work. Up against taller and heavier ruckman it was an encouraging start. Looked to have real problems jumping against them at centre bounces early, but seemed to be starting to work out how to body them as the game progressed. Really like his body work at boundary throw ins, even when beaten. He is just a natural competitor. Follow up work in packs when the ball hits the ground is also a feature.

Long way to go.

The Brisbane Lions are excited to announce Shadeau Brain and Ty Gallop have signed one-year contract extensions to keep them at Brighton Homes Arena.

Brain and Gallop, both Youi Brisbane Lions Academy graduates, will remain with the Club until at least the end of 2026 and 2027 respectively.

The pair have more in common having both have come through the AFL Queensland talent pathway as Sunshine Coast locals.

Brain, pre-selected as a Category B Rookie from the Queensland Zone at the end of 2022, made his AFL debut in Round 9 last season before playing nine games in total.

While Gallop, taken with Pick 42 in the 2024 AFL Draft, has impressed during his first AFL pre-season with strong performances in several practice matches.

Lions General Manager Football, Danny Daly said it was exciting for the Club’s future to have the duo extend.

“To have two young guys commit to the football Club is a great sign for us and we’re looking forward to seeing both players continue to develop,” Daly said.

“Shadeau has continued to impress year-on-year and was rewarded with an AFL debut last season, and the rewards will continue as he keeps working hard.

“Ty has only been at the Club for a short time, but he is an exciting prospect for us and has enjoyed a strong first pre-season on our AFL list.

“It’s always a great feeling to re-sign any player, particularly when they are Queensland locals who have come through our Youi Brisbane Lions Academy.”

After initially recruited as a 183-centimetre forward, Brain’s versatility has seen him move to a half-back flank in the VFL where his speed and ball use are his strengths.

Now with a taste for AFL, the 21-year-old said he is determined to earn more games in coach Chris Fagan’s side.

“I felt last year I took a big step and was able to play some really good footy at both AFL and VFL level,” Brain said.

“Now in the next couple of years I just want to continue to grow as a player and as a person and to keep going forward to get some success with this great club.”

Gallop, a 19-year-old key forward who stands at 194 centimetres, is also working hard to force his way into the Lions AFL team.

“I am very excited to have extended my contract with the Club for an extra year,” Gallop said.

“I am grateful to the Club for the opportunity and I’m excited to see what I can achieve over the next three years.”

Ty Gallop’s family, coaches and teachers reflect on Brisbane Lions AFL grand final rise

Less than a year ago Ty Gallop was playing social AFL 9s footy with his mates and unsure if his dream of playing at the top level was over.

Now he stands on the cusp of kicking the Brisbane Lions to an AFL premiership in his just sixth senior game.

The bolter from the Sunshine Coast has lit up the finals series, booting four goals in his past two games as the tall forward prepares to take on Geelong in the grand final, the team who attempted to draft Gallop last year before the Lions matched the bid at pick 42.

It caps off an incredible rise from the relatively unknown 195cm talent who was plucked from obscurity after a huge 2024 season where he was named the QAFL’s rookie of the year, gained Queensland Allies selection and featured in Brisbane’s VFL preliminary final against Werribee.
