Ty Zantuck is preparing to resume training at Punt Road next week, unless he finds a new home by tomorrow afternoon.

Zantuck's management last night said the disgruntled utility, whose desire to leave Richmond was based in part on his fractious relationship with the senior players, was ready to return to training next week should the Tigers fail to drop him off the list by tomorrow's deadline.

Zantuck's manager, Anthony McConville, said his client would return to training next week, since he was contracted to play for the Tigers in 2005.

Zantuck's return to Richmond would place the Tigers in a difficult position, given that the player has indicated his issues with senior players. New coach Terry Wallace recently told coterie group "the Hafey Club" that there was irreparable damage between Zantuck and the senior players and it would be best for all concerned if he left.

Wallace last night said he had not heard any suggestion that Zantuck would be returning. "He hasn't told me he's coming to training," he said.

McConville said that, with senior lists being lodged tomorrow before the national draft, Zantuck was preparing to return to Richmond. "If nothing happens by Friday, he'll be at training next week."

Zantuck's contract - which would see him paid well in excess of $200,000 should he play all the senior games - has made it difficult for the Tigers to off-load him, since other clubs are unwilling to pick up the bulk of the tab.

While Essendon and Richmond failed to strike a deal before the deadline that would have seen Zantuck become a Bomber, Essendon has not been as strong in pursuing the 22-year-old in recent days, having sniffed the possibility that it can acquire Blake Caracella, who has opted to leave Brisbane. The Kangaroos, the other major trade week suitor, are believed to have lost interest in Zantuck.

The Tigers, despite their desire to off-load Zantuck, have indicated that they will not delist him and allow another club to pick him up without picking up a reasonable portion of his contract. The club is understood to be willing to keep him on the list, despite his relationship issues with teammates and its preference for him to leave.

Wallace said it was up to Zantuck and his management to find a new home, given that he had wanted to leave Punt Road.

Brisbane has fended off the advances of Collingwood to re-sign youngster Anthony Corrie on a two-year contract. The Lions have also re-signed ruckman Clarke Keating for another two years.

The re-signings of Corrie and Keating means the Lions have all their players committed for 2005 bar Caracella, who wishes to return to Melbourne and is receiving interest from clubs including Essendon, Collingwood and Geelong, the latter considered a long shot to obtain him via the draft.

I HOPE HE ROTS IN THE RESERVES.

the way i see it either he pulls his head in, appologises to the players in question, and puts his head down, keeps his mouth shut and works his butt off, or leave him in the 2s all year and cut him. then see who wants to pick him up. its up to you ty.

Don't want him around - and it's obvious Wallace doesn't either. If he comes back expect him to get to cr*p beaten out of him by a number of players in the boxing ring.

i dont want him either, but football is a business and if he can do all the right things and works hard he should be given a chance imho. we cant afford to throw away an asset like that, the guy has ability, if he pulls his head in and mends his bridges it could be the making of him.

Its probably that traitor campbell that he has a problem with..

Just wait for the dud to retire...

The club will be a better place for all..

Campbell - DUD are you kidding, the guy has given everything for the club in the last few years and struggled with injury.

I bet you are one of the idiots that bagged Joel Bowden as well, eat your words this year....

******** them.
They'll be dead soon anyway and the sooner the better.

I'd rather his spirit around the joint than pea hearted has beens like Gapar
and Chaffey who have used the RFC for themselves over the last 4 years.

If Zantuck showed a tenth of the footballing ability Campbell had then I'd support him all the way.

Question: What the fuch has Zantuck produced to be bagging someone like Campbell, or even a Gaspar or a Chaffey for that matter?

Probably the same excuse Fiona used. Boo hoo the players give me the cold shoulder and tease me and don't allow me to speak up and offer my valuable opinion.

He single handedly knifed knights in the back and brought us to the lowest point of the clubs history..

Captain courageous.. Not a softer captain has the tigers ever had.

Campbell lovers.. Show me the money... I will show you his wooden spoon collection.

I'm not as harsh as tigertime but i am not a fan of Campbell at all.

His stop, wait, chip kick, possesion playing style killed us this year.

I am glad to hear he'll be goal camping next year, because if he wasn't doing that i'd want him to retire.

not sure why you would blame campbell for the knights situation. I certainly wwasnt happy with knights losing the captaincy. But that was another Frawley Disaster. Not that Campbell isnt a worthy captain for us(i mean who else have we had be more suitable??) The thing that burnt so many ppl with campbell was how POORLY the captaincy was taken off Knights and handed to Campbell, and then also Knights being treated so poorly in his last year really compounded to the attitude that "campbell Sucks". But I feel that Campbell has certainly done enough to prove he was a worthy suiter.

With Ty, We most certainly should NOT let him walk. Sit him down with the senior players in question - point out that no individual is bigger than this club, and its up to both parties to make sure that their personal issues with each other is kept to themselves, for the BENEFIT of the club. I dont see any point paying him out at all, really then he gets to leave and gets free money. Also explain to Ty that the football world already obviously has thinks he isnt worth the trouble, No one will take him FOR FREE in the PSD. This would surely be more based of his reputation than his ability. Tell him that it is in his best interest to come out next year, play incident free, act as a professional, and maybe prove to the football world that he is a worthy investment. If he acts like a big baby and turns up late for training, and gets on the juice too much, he will become the next Angwin. And Angwin had FARR more ability than TY. It's his career on the line more than anything, richmond can survive with playing TY in the coburgs 2's next year.

At the same time, our senior blokes have gotta get over it too. They have hardly been brillant contributors to RFC in the past few years, and instead of worrying about Ty the should be worrying about playing somewhere near their best.

I agree 100%. also he is often as guilty as any other of unforced turnovers, and has never been capable of kicking that "Captains Goal" comes down to it though - the likes of Gas, Richo, Bowden and Otto, were fair less capable of being a "good" captain. But again begs the question, why such a hurry to push knights out?

Knights was this generations Weightman. it kills me to see him Asst coaching at essendon now.

Are we so spud headed to think frawley decided to get rid of knights all on his own?? Who was the beneficiary. Why wont knights come back with frawley gone....

My thoughts are I would prefer knights to be playing next year and leading the club and campbell to have been axed.

Campbell has never been in knights league on any level... His stop and prop game is that of a selfish player...

I agree with everything else that has been said here though..

I think zanners will be a good player for us now that we have a decent coach..

If he had a decent captain last year, he wouldnt be in this position to begin with.

Maybe John F, but what if they do the same with the gun recruits we pick up in the draft this year? OK to mess with Zantuck who's done nothing, but if Fiora imporves at the Saints, it says a lot about our team leaders and senior players.

The cancer is the senior players as far as I'm concerned. They've been there all along whilst the team has been winning wooden spoons. And its Spuds cosy relationship with them which made him even more ineffective as a coach. Not enough to get rid of Spud. Get the rest of the culprits to walk the plank

The Saints were a better team when they got rid of Lowe, Burke and Everritt

Good for you Tigertime. He's always been a selfish player, more interested in his kicks tally than the team win. Inventor of the quick kick throwing the ball onto the boot and straight up in the air. Always looking over his shoulder when he gets the ball cos he's $hit scared of copping a tackle.

Worst choice for RFC captain of all time. I cant think of a worse capatain we've had at the club

Over to you JF

If you call knifing someone in the back winning 3 best and fairests in the space of 5 years and showing himself to be the best player at the club, then yes, Campbell certainly did knife Knights in the back.

Campbell may not have been the most courageous in terms of backing into packs but he always had courage of conviction, which is what probably helped him get the captaincy job.

If you think even a Michael Voss could have helped us remain from being bottom of the ladder this year then you are deluded.

Mate if you are judging the man, at least do it when he was in his prime, not when he is washed up coming off career threatening injuries.

What were you saying about him in the years 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002 when he was finishing in the top 2 of the best and fairest at the club?

If you care to look up any stats on clangers you will find Campbell has less than the likes of Hird, Buckley, Voss, Ricciutto, Crawford, West.
