Did any of the papers give this man votes?

I can't remember.

But I think he was almost, if not, the best player on the ground.

I don't think Goodes should of got best on ground as almost half of his possessions came when Harry O'Brien was being tried on him to see what he could do.

Anyone agree with me?

I think Goodes was probably BOG, but must say I was really impressed with Goldsack. Really impressed.

I don't think the harry O thing was a trial I think MM felt he was actually the best match up. With moneybags racking em up nicely in the back half he wasn't going to move him to Goodes, You don't want to lose Pendles offence so he wasn't gonna go to Goodes and the general is short of fitness. I didn't see the Goodes match up being to much of a loss as he is in red hot form and got most of his possies defensive side of the ground where it was hard for him to be really dominate

I thought Goodes had one of the best games I've seen live in some time. He was unreal. Pendles and Goldsack were our best players, but it wasn't even close.

Goodes did as he pleased. Regardless of who was on him, he was the best on ground and deserved it. Without him, Sydney would have been destroyed.

Goodes was very impressive indeed. Has been carrying the swans for a while now, id hate to see if he missed a game

Goldy was pretty good as well, wouldnt mind seeing him given a run in the midfield.

Sorry mate, but Goodes was BOG by a mile.

Goldsack was the best for the Pies and probably 2nd best overall.

Ah alright. I still think he was probelly the best Collingwood player on the ground.

Actually, Mick made the move during the second quarter and O'Bree ran with Goodes for about 10 minutes. Goodes didn't get a kick.

Then amazingly, he put Harry back on him and he cut loose again!

You're not actually suggesting O'Bree should have stayed on Goodes? I don't remember the 10 minutes you're referring to - but if Goodes didn't get a touch it would have been pure luck. O'Bree is woeful defensively. O'Brien tried hard all game out of position, and Swan tried too when he was on him. Both got slaughtered by a star player. We just don't have a tagger atm unfortunately.

I would have played Thomas on Goodes. I remember earlier in the season he played a tagging role with a lot of success on a taller opponent, plus he would have hurt him on the rebound.

No, I wouldn't have left O'Bree on Goodes, in fact I never would have put him there in the first place.

But he slaughtered Harry, and I felt that moving Harry back onto him wasn't wise. I probably would have had Goldsack on him from the bounce, but Goldy was playing so well and being so creative off half back it would have robbed Peter to pay Paul.

My next option would have been Marty Clarke.

Clarke doesn't have the strength or the height. Our only reasonable matchup is Pendles, but he was also our only creative player, and using him defensively would have killed our drive. I really think we need to look at a Steven Baker type tagger late in the draft if one exists. We could really use a "pest" at the club.

Harry just struggled going from burst running (as in the backline) to consistent running in the midfield. It's a touch change to make. Otherwise physically he's a perfect matchup.

If we meet Sydney in the finals, I'd start with Pendles on Goodes. Let them play wide of each other. Even if Goodes wins the duel, as long as Pendles is still constructive for us, the net damage wouldn't be too bad -- at least no worse than what Goodes did to us in Rd 21 anyway. If Goodes does burn Pendles, then play a hard tag. Swan would be my choice. He's done stopping jobs this year (played on a HBF against O'Keefe first time we played the Swans). He's terrific one on one and covers a lot of ground.
