Looking at the draw, Old Geelong have it pretty sweet on the road home. I'd say they have a fair chance of playing finals.

Don't think Therry will enjoy not being mentioned in that either. It's fairly open at this stage, and there's a long way to go...

Who have Old Geelong beaten among the top teams? I know they lost both matches against Rupo.

will these apparent imaginary players be available against aquinas in a few weeks?

if they are of the quality you talk them up to be it may be quite a match

Well hopefully we'll able to fill more than the 15 fit players we had for the majority of the last time we clashed. Given that the game is between semesters, and around 10 of NOBs starting 18 are from country vic living at melbourne uni colleges, I would be surprised if we were at full strength. However, as stated by our mate Robbo, you play with what you've got and we will be hoping to put up a good show against the benchmark team in the comp. As for the "imaginary" players, as I said to Robbo, if you looked on the weekend, we had 2 on the bench from the word go and if he compare this with listed players on vafa website we've had more than 30 players this season, so you can hardly claim that such players we imaginary. Admittedly , only 5 or so would be in your best 18, but still it makes a significant difference. Anyway, hope that puts and end to the nobs/rupo shite talking.

I'm over it Dross. I look forward to the next clash.

As for next Saturday's game, I expect our Rupo players will not be a pushover and suggest Aquinas bring their best game if it expects to win.

NOBS starting to come together as a team? after being very much thrown together

it really is a clash of long time rivals NOBS vs THERRY, with therry winning the last 4 encounters - but this year with therry fielding many unders in the senior team and nobs being strong and not needing to have to call any1 up - could this be their big chance to regain the JOYCE-COSTELLO cup? T.Joss sure to play an integral part

The name of the cup has a nice ring to it Mike, though Nellie and Smalesly (especially after the infamous NOBs-Therry Marshmallow War of 2001) are unlucky!! But all the same we'll stick with your version.

For memory whilst Therry have won the last four, one was gifted by a lucky free in the dying moments and another due to the Boy Wonder Costello awarded goals which were clearly behinds.

T.Joss has apparently had a picture of G.Rees up on his dartboard all week and is ready to go.

I'll be getting to the Gillon early on Saturday for this big clash.

Don't bother bringing morning tea Cameo King, this is going to be a blowout. All over by half time is my prediction. T. Joss will send you boys back to school, and with a forward line that opposition sides drool over, who's going to stop the Nobbers?

I don't think NOBS are going to have it all their own way. This is clearly the match of the round with Therry pushing to join the fight for the top four, while NOBS need to win to consolidate 3rd spot.

My tips:
NOBS by 2 goals
Aquinas by 80+
Xav's by 20 points
Old Geelong by 10 goals
Ivanhoe by 100+

Could get messy this week for a few sides

Joss has come up sick this week and may not line up against therry this weekend, an adequate replacement was found, dropped from a side playing worse than any vafa u19 north 2 team.
Out: T.Joss (flu)
In: N. Del Santo

Good to see T.Joss passed that last minute fitness test and was able to run all day in the midfield. Much better player than Dal Santo will ever be.

Therry by 45 points, i think the NOBs are getting ahead of themselves.
Its still Aquina's then daylight in this league.

We have the same problem at Ogs too. Hopefully the boys will be keen enough to travel to melbourne every weekend otherwise the holidays could be a bit grim.

Thats whats we'll be relying on Gissa. It will be interesting when we play each other in a couple of weeks!

T Joss mayb one of the best players in the competition but even his dominating presence wasn't enough to stop sam bye and the therry machine

the joyce costello cup returns to jp fawkner once again

in agreeance unique as he is actually called meat dog down at therry - rumours are ivanhoe wont be facing the meat dog who is expected to be playing seniors this week as he did all of last year

im not sure who nobs have this week but i wouldnt want to have them, sensing a massive Joss explosion this week after he got shut down last week - he would be an angry formidable task to face:mad:

Tips for this week:

Ivanhoe by 24
Rupo by 18
Aquinas by 50
St Leos by 30
Xavs by 15

half a game to split 3rd from 7th by the end of the round

Give us more respect than a 50 point loss Muf! Could the Aquinas bubble burst on saturday??

Unlikely. Had a close look at Aquinas on Saturday. They were awesome and told me so on many occasions.

Seriously, well drilled, play to a plan and have enough stars to make it work. As a group, they drop away after the top 6 but this elite group create so many opportunities that even duds and unfit players can play a part.

Ruckman is the best I've seen in a long time. Can actually palm the ball at a ruck contest. On ballers read his ruck work well and rarely lose a centre clearance. Top that off with a key forward who has kicked a lot of goals and you can see why Aquinas is hard to stop.

Can they be beaten? No.

How would I try to beat them? I think as a group they could be niggled and lose concentration. So play tight, yap and you'll get plenty of mouth from them. It might work.

I will point out a few of their tactics so you can watch and admire.

Run in waves to the fat side of the ground. So I would instruct my players to play in position, not get sucked into the thin side contests and keep touch with their opponents.

On-ballers are happy to play a kick behind the game. This crowds your forward line, where they outnumber you at contests in your forward line, and helps create that run to the fat side of the gound. I'm not a fan of on ballers going forward but in this case I would instruct them to go with their direct opponents.

Centre bounce and stops in play are where they put a huge amount of pressure on the opposition. Two set plays were very effective. Centre bounce, on baller runs to the left of the bounce, receives the ball and delivers it quickly into the forward line. Stop play where the goal side is left with plenty of space and the ruckman punches the ball directly forward and Aquinas players run into that free space. Crowd these plays. The players outside the square have got to become part of the contest. Instruct a player to fill the free space on the defensive side at a ball up.

Also watch out for the short kick to a free man in the forward line. Your defenders are under heaps of pressure and worrying about the guy who has kicked all the goals. Instead of doing the obvious and kick long, you'll find a guy thirty from goal gladly receiving the short pass. They can hit targets.

So good luck. The Rupo boys received a lesson they won't forget in a long time. Some of them may be permanently scarred.

I haven't mentioned their backline because, based on what I've seen, they don't get put under much pressure.

Also I have one other thought but I'm not sharing all the information.

Cheers Robbo

ivanhoe v therry- too strong
rupo v bernards- the start of bernards run!
nobs v aquinas- will stay undefeated
reds v st leos- reds are struggling
xavs v geelong- xavs too good at home
