Hi all, As a hawks fan considering our lack of forwards was looking for results on leading goal scorers for the carnival and who to watch over next few years as good forwards coming through, understand the lad from Vic was a standout but who else stood out or kicked goals and could be watch for the draft in 2028. They usually take a bit more to develop understandably

How’s the new crop looking Ed?
Some decent players out in the EFNL so Oakleigh and Eastern Ranges should have some good talent coming through as usual. Should hopefully get a better gauge once club trials start but I think there are a lot with a competitive edge to them which is a good sign for this age group.

That’s a Div 2 YJFL game!
Seriously, how does any player know they just missed out on the ssv team - there is no discussion with players who are cut even if they made it to the last round.

I don't mind the changes to this one. I would definitely be taking a few of the boys I said before out of it.

I don't know if you have heard, but I would most definitely include Chase Whelan inside the top 5, maybe even inside the top 2 or 3. He is 15 years old and absolutely dominating senior footy having kicked 33 goals in 7 games in the Horsham and District League (one bag of 9 and 2 bags of 6). Andy Munro, the footy historian guy, actually uploaded a piece about him to YouTube which I would almost certainly check out.

If you want some more Country prospects, I would include Eamon Hyde (21/22 best on ground's and 80 goals as an U14 in the Murray League) in the top 20, as well as Lenny Sims who I mentioned before. I must admit that Sims scored MORE goals in a far more competitive and well-rounded league than Hyde, as the Wang and District is one of the top junior leagues in the Country.

Levi Duffy is not a top 25 prospect. I play for Shepparton Swans so I have no biased towards either Duff or Sol, but neither of these boys are top prospects with the atrocious performances that they are consistently showing. They are getting outclassed by Echuca, Kyabram and the Shepp Bears team and they look like they will be finishing as the bottom team in U16 Div 1 GVFL.

I would consider Oscar Roydhouse a top 25 prospect as he is playing consistent first XVIII APS football for Geelong College, who are looking really good this year. He kicked 2-3 goals in the Geelong Derby (#8 in the black boots for anyone watching the Baseline vlog) and looked like a very classy small forward who can pinch-hit in the midfield.

Ky Bannister is ABSOLUTELY huge. He is about 198-199cm as a 14 year old and has a very strong mark for a kid of his size. He judges the ball well and will be a super important player along with Whelan at the U15 SSV Champs. He is likely to also make the U16 Vic Country basketball team as a bottom-ager so another basketball background to watch out for.
Point taken. I am without a doubt the best-non AFL affiliated junior scout in Victoria.

Eamon Hyde and Chase Whelan were both included in the All-Australian team, and Sims was awarded the best-on-ground in the grand final.

Bannister and Roydhouse were both unbelievably unlucky to have not made the All-Australian team after a few of their performances, and some of the other boys who did make the team (Millar / Hardman) weren't exactly my pick of the bunch.

Any super highly touted father/sons in this group?

Doesnt appear so just yet..
You have to remember Nick Daicos didn't play for the 2018 U15 Victorian team, so a lot of father-sons mature later

I'd know because I did play for the team and he most definitely wasn't included.

Sorders strongly disagree with your comments re Roydhouse and Bannister and comparing them to players who made the AA team.
I was there in Brisbane and Roydhouse was very good in some games but definitely a bit quiet in the early games and Bannister disappointing to be fair - and he’s far from the tallest/biggest in the team - actually a few are taller!
Hardman was excellent in all games and was definitely the stand out consistent on-baller and Millar stood up when it mattered and did some very good things. To say Roydhouse and Bannister should be in the AA team is a very long stretch!!

Victoria's Chase Whelan and Callum Samuelson were named joint winners of the JL Williams medal for the best and fairest in the recent U15s championships. Anyone know anything about Gold Coaster Callum Samuelson? Would be interested to learn more about him considering it sounds like he's going to be a standout in this draft class.

My understanding is, that was because his father held him out.
Nah, he trialled in all 3 games and was just too slow and fumbly in all of them.

He was originally not named in the squad but when Josh Rachele pulled out due to mixed soccer / football commitments, Daicos became the 4th emergency.

He matured really quickly when he started playing more for Carey in 2019 under the tutulage of Rowell and Anderson.

He was a star after that.
