Okay so the Umpire Decision Review System is now mandatory but optional.

The main issue I have with it is I want Hot Spot to be there (and applied correctly- i.e. if there is no mark you are not out unlike the last West Indian wicket last summer).

http://www.cricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2011/content/current/story/470808.html

The article above says HotSpot is unlikey for the World Cup and is a possibility for finals. I was astounded to read it costs between $6000 and $10000 a day to use. I can see why boards are reluctant to use it. If we go with $50 000 per test and you play 10 tests a year thats half a million- add introduction into ODI's then it could be $1m from the bottom line. Whilst richer boards can afford it I doubt they will if no one else is forced to do it.

The ICC should just pay for the entire thing or alternatively in the next broadcast agreement make it mandaotory in the bidding proccess. Right now channel nine pays for it in Australia- force all broadcasters to have this technology and that is one way we can implement it.

How do we best get everyone to use it?

The reality is that while the Bangas board etc can't afford it, all the top class nations can afford it.

India can DEFINATELY afford it. They don't want it, they didn't like how it went in one series, and now they are having a sook about it, as they are apt to do.

I think they should make it mandatory, and the ICC just take it out of the bottom line. presumably boards already pay royalties to the ICC.

either that, or the home team has to provide it if either party wants it. If neither do then fine.

I am not suggesting India cannot afford it- the issue is why should they pay for it when other boards will not. ALso- whilst they have issues with the UDRS- I am pretty sure India is in support (or at least Tendulkar based on the article) as long as Hot Spot is used.

Think we will have to wait till the next broadcast deal and make it madatory for all broadcasters to give it for free.

You get the feeling India are the front runners in this system. The ICC have introduced this (a little to fast imo) but have had issues around the world to be able to afford it for ever test match. So I wonder why have it at all if it is not consistent? India have picked up on this and I think are just pressuring the ICC to smarten up there act untill the review system is done properly. India is almost as influential about how cricket is ran then the ICC with all the power in the cricketing world India have aquired.

I do not say this too often but come on Indian Cricket Board and get the evenness we all deserve

the plot thickens, all the measures other than hotspot will be available to the viewing public.. but not the umpires.

Lets just hope that India get a few dodgy decisions and suddenly the BCCI will change their mind. If we get the dodgy decisions expect them to continue along the same path as they currently do.

Its interesting they like hotspot.. which for mine, can be a bit dubious. Either way, that will not feature in the series, apparantly it is indeed too expensive.

Hotspot needs to be a must- the only 100% accurate technology. Having said that the system needs to be used properly. If there is no mark on the bat then not out (unlike the dodgy decision against the West Indian 10th wicket last summer).

There was an article on Cricinfo saying the guy behind Hawkeye is trying to meet the Indian players (and has met Kirsten already). Basically he said the system used in India was not Hawkeye but something else called Virtualeye (hence India's concerns are probably valid). Probably need a get together to go over the benefits but also confirm Hawkeye is a proper system.

India have said no to the udrs in the up coming series in october. these sooks begged for it only 3 years ago and they keep saying they don't wan't in any test series.

indeed it's ridiculous, India and their constant crying are basically the reason we have a review system, an ump makes a mistake against them and he's basically labeled a cheat a racist or both.

Well Sehwag is in support of it- everyone else not with concerns over the technology used (incidently as per the article above they were using the wrong technology).

Hopefully a solution will be found soon.
