I'm just curious to know from saints fans, if all St.Kilds listed players were available to you, and at full fitness, who would you have in the starting 22 and in what positions?

Personally this is my favoured team.

FB: Sam Gilbert, Max Hudghton, Leigh Fisher
CHB:Sam Fisher, Matt Maguire, Brendan Goddard
C: Leigh Montagna, Lenny Hayes, Xavier Clarke
CHF: Robert Harvey, Nick Riewoldt, Jason Gram
FF: Justin Kozchitzke, Fraser Gehrig, Adam Schneider
R/F: Steven King, Nick Dal Santo, Luke Ball
Int:Michael Gardiner, Steven Baker, Stephen Milne, Raphael Clarke

Im not sure if dempster is good enough to get a game with us yet and its tough whether to have R.Clarke, Fiora, Geary in the team. the added depth with Charlie Gardiner, Clinton Jones and Shane Birss shows if we are lucky with injuries(for a change) we are a genuine premiership chance.

It's a good thing to have these selection dillemas, allot of competition for spots. Whos in ur best 22?

thats a pretty good team
could cha;llenge geelong if every1 was on the park playing well together
very good side

So many people could take the last interchange place though.

Milne in the starting 18 and Fisher on the interchange is a good move, but yeah its that last interchange spot that has really good competition, many players could play for that spot :s

I reckon Lyon should give Raph Clarke a chance to play in the forward, on a half forward flank. He could be relieved of his pressure to mark a forward each week, so he would play with more freedom and creativity. Also, his errors wont cost as much if he was further up the ground.

FB: Gilbert Hudghton S. Fisher
HB: Goddard Maguire Gram
W: X. Clarke Ball Montagna
HF: Schneider Riewoldt C. Gardiner
FF: Gehrig Koschitzke Milne

R: Gardiner Dal Santo Hayes

I: King Harvey Baker Blake

Emg: L. Fisher Geary Armitage

Although something I would love to see:

FF: Gehrig Koschitzke Riewoldt

Play all three deep in the goalsquare, Gehrig leads left, Kosi leads up the middle while Riewoldt splits right. Could be disasterous, or could break an opposition.

If we have no injury's for about 2 weeks, we are only short of Baker in most people's teams!

Things are changing down at Moorabbin!

I must admit, this does look great but I dont think it would work. Gehrig, Kozi and Roo all playing deep creates problems up the field and makes our forward structure non - existant. we could be too top heavy with three talls and this may get predictable, but the idea has its merits. if we're struggling we could play this for 5 minutes to try and kick some quick goals, but we may struggle with no Roo/Kozi to kick to up the ground. what a forward line though!

No mention of Attard , is he best 22 without injury?

Will this big list cause any of our players to be disgruntled?
L Fisher , Fiora , Blake , Baker are used to being part of the regular side and would feel like they have retired early if dropped . Also I suspect the reason that we got C Gardner was that he hoped to play AFL more often.
Younger players like Armatige, Geary and Gilbert and Jones are now at AFL level and would get games in another team.

Or do you run them on some sort of rotating roster, at the risk of instability in the team?

Are any of these guys out of contract in the near future?

I personally havent seen enough from Attard to say that he would be in our best 22 if fit, i personally dont think he would be. The younger players are the players of the future and we have Max Hudghton and Harves probably in their last years, along with Fraser Gehrig add injuries to that and they will probably get more games in the future, theyre all great! charlie gardiner was never going to get a game with the cats so hes come for more oppurtunity and if Fraser retires at the end of this year, he will be a definite starter in the forward line. suddenly our window of oppurtunity is wide open. when players step out of the team we have enough players to step up straight away into their spots. their job a the moment is to keep playing well in the 2nds and impressing at training to put their names up for selection.

Also, in terms of Gilbert, i heard rumours he wanted to go to Brisbane last year but had a change of heart. He's a queensland boy, but he's really impressed me last year and has plenty of improvement to come. so i spose we can trade him. Sam Gilbert and pick 75 for Luke Power, Jed Adcock and Jonathon Brown. but if Brisbane aren't up for that i think we should keep him!

That trade sounds perfectly reasonable, how could they refuse. :D
Gilbert is one of my favorites he had a great season 2007 and I really hope we find some game time for Armatige after an excellent preseason.
At the same time I dont like to have to drop Blake , or L Fisher , or Baker since they have done such a good job in the past.
Fiora or R Clarke I can drop.

surley there is no chance that raph clarke is in our best 22. that is the biggest discrace ive ever herd. Fizz shits all over his mothers chest, surley anyone with half a brain agrees that fizz is better than raph.

I must admit that Raph has been cemented in our 22 for over a year, but worries me. Raph Clarke has potential but in my opinion, he thinks he's better than he is.

woops my bad.. lol
maybe bakes on the bench then..
i really had a good think about this team, i think we need a bit of youth and pace injected.. we dont have enough players who find space.

Maguire- dont know if we will ever get him fit.. dont know if he has still got it?? your thoughts?
Frazer- the game might be a bit fast for him i think..
Raph clarke & blake- gone...

Alright, here gos nothing

B: S. Fisher M. Hudgton L. Fisher

Reasonings: Lets be honest, M. Hudgton is far and away our best spoiler and has hte best closing speed, if he keeps fit, our defence just looks so much better! S. Fisher rarely gets beaten/plays a bad game and did a magnificent job on B. Johnson on friday night. I think it was a good idea to get Leigh to run with players int he first couple rounds, but once Bakers back, I hope he reverts to a Back Pocket where he does his very best work I think.

HB: B. Goddard M.Maguire J. Gram

Even with many including myself indicating that Goddard should go forward in '08, after seeing him again Friday night, he is ____ing gold up back. Took him a while to get up to the pace of the game and seemed a bit hesistant but it was perhaps the best comeback game i've seen in a long time. Goose is still 6 weeks off for mine, end of last year, lacked pace, a good kick and confidence and was almost a liability down back. Lets just give him time to get back, is one of the very best CHB's when his up and running. Gram is up there with our most important players, the run he creates is great and his kicks are USUALLY spot on. We need to protect him more though imo. He seems to be running into deadwalls and almost getting caught quite a bit. Gets tagged by a forward more weeks than not and for mine it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and avoid this.

C: Gilbert Dal Santo Montagna

Shits me to tears watching Gilbert play back. Genuine winger for mine, he tackles, has pace and kicks running goals, all things that we lack. Hopefully Gilbert gets released when Maguire returns just because he has a serious X Factor about him. Dal Santo not starting in the center square at every single bounce he is on the ground is beyond stupid for mine, reads the taps and is such a smart player, getting him the first or second disposal after a bounce down is such an advantage due to his amazing kicking, about the only midfielder we have that you know isa very high porbability to hit a forward when he has the ball through the midfield and Montagna possibily one of our best midfielders now seems to have all the attributes to become elite, just needs to improve on his goal kicking on the run which he seems to really have a problem doing, he has gradually improved every year since he started, and it's nice to see a player like him come through the ranks.

HF: Scheinder Riewoldt X. Clarke

Both Schneider and Xavier are cruical to our midfield rotations I think, and I thought Schneider was the only one having a go in the midfield when put in there in the last quarter. We need Schneider in the midfield possibily a bit more for mine due to the lack of pace we have in there, that said both kick goals and have great forward line pressure for mine but FFS Schneids, put an extra 10 meters on your kicks? Riewoldt goes without saying, his a superstar but at the moment is getting no decent delivery and has broked even with Waite and was killed by Morris, he must! bounce back this week against Geelong, or we have no hope of winning.

F: Milne Koschitzke Gehrig

Without a doubt, Milne is good at what he does, no doubt his frustrating as ____ at times, but he's kicked what? 7 goals so far this season? The most of any forward. Lacks decison making skills at times but he does enough to hold his spot every week. Gehrig and Koschitzke shit me, are they too similar players to both play in the forward line? No chemistry at all between them at the moment. They have played very limited games together and it will probably (hopefully) come. Both are in desperate need of a great match. Koschitzke was ok on the weekend, 10 touches, 5 marks and 3 goals. Still not even touching the borders of his best at the moment.

Foll: M. Gardiner Hayes Ball

I think Gardiner proved to me, and many other Saints fans that he is our best ruckman after watching the Sydney and Carlton match. He seems to be a better runner and reads the play a lot better. Also holding his marks, which King can't do. Seems to have a better connection with the midfielders and I for one was shattered when news came to me of him going down with a Calf. Lenny seems to be struggling with his kicking a bit at the moment and is handballing a lot more often that what he used to, that said he was BOG against Carlton, had 12 tackles on Friday night and was useful against the Swans, he is our most valuable midfielder for mine. Luke still is nowhere near his 2004 and 2005 form but that said he has had a massive improvement on last year. Was our best mid on Friday night I thought, can't afford to not have him in the midfield due to his hardness and fantastic in and under work. He is a GOOD player at the moment and hopefully come round 8 or round 10 or even round 18, he is a VERY good player.

Bench: King Geary Harvey Baker

King our back up ruckman, and a good option no doubt about it but he seems almost a bit soft at the moment, hopefully he improves his marking and hardness abilities, a good ruckman but can improve quite a bit for mine, Harvey goes without explaining, does his bit week in week out. one for midfield rotation. It's great to see players like Geary in the team, doing a great job down back at the minute and is playing above his years in experiance at the moment, seems to be an ok kick and a good decision maker, a good option for 22 games for mine. And Baker goes without saying, he gets the best mid week in week out and usually shuts them out of the game.

R. Clarke, Blake, Fiora, C. Jones, C.Gardiner, Armitage all a bit unlucky.
