The funniest part was hearing the fox footy commentary during the first sps tackle. One of them was arguing that the sps tackle was htb because it looked like he didn't attempt to convince the umpires he was trying to get the ball out. Other commentator says wtf kind of ruling is that? Penalized because he couldnt pretend to try get rid of the ball?

And thats the sad state the game is in.

Nothing to see here guys , these decisions have no impact on the game, it’s all the players and their mindset, let’s not look for excuses blah blah blah.....

Fair dinkum club needs to get serious. I can do a video like that for nearly every game this year. If we were treated fairly we’d be in the 8.

Brereton and Kelly Underwood she was spot on ‘so you need to fake an attempt to get rid of the ball’ even though the balls wrapped up and impossible to do so... she summed it up perfectly...
 
I am happy to admit that I was very happy hearing Clarkson mention the lack of holding the ball being paid. players constantly holding on to it and not getting penalized was causing congestion and making the game look terrible.

Unfortunately the umpires (and AFL) have taken it far too far in the wrong direction. It's quite embarrassing now to see where they've taken this new interpretation.

As for our game, well that was blatant bullshit. I'm not going to sit here and say it cost us the game as we will never know, but my god were some of those decisions costly. Many have been mentioned here so I won't go over them, but so many resulted in eagles goals that you wouldn't be called a fool for thinking we could've won if SOME of those decisions went the other way. It was truly pathetic. Mind you, I am one to NEVER blame umpires as the game as a whole should sort out their inconsistencies but Sunday was a whole different level of bullshit.

The lack of holding the ball was/is definitely a problem.
Unfortunately, they completely ****ed up judging which holding-the-ball/incorrect disposal decisions were lacking.

It's the NicNat/Liam Ryan decisions which are being missed and need to be paid. The ones were the ball is locked in just need to be quickly balled up.

It's absurd to have players pretending to try to dispose of a ball that they cannot possible get rid of, when there was no prior opportunity.

Yep, the blame on this one lies squarely with the AFL. I honesly have no idea why they suddenly insisted that ball-ups were a bad thing and that players should be responsible for clearing the ball out rather than umpires.

I mean sure, if a player elects to dive on a ball that's already on the ground, make it their responsibility. But if a player didn't dive on it, and they're being tackled in a bear-hug (especially one where the opponent is purposely locking the ball in) just call a ball up and get on with the game.

Yes.
Although whatever the direction from the AFL, the umpires should know better than to ping Samo in those circumstances. Just a complete lack of understanding of the game.

Just noticed how the WCE ‘S players ‘encourage’ the umps to pay holding the ball decisions. Quite a few around the ball were rotating both arms in a bowling motion to suggest it was holding the ball. This highlighted the tackle and created a sense of urgency for the ump to pay the free. It worked..
 
I know I'm finding it hard to let the WC game go, but of all the bafflingly incorrect decisions, this is the one that galls me the most. Two arms wrapped around a player has been paid a feek-kick to the player being wrapped all year. It happened again in tonight's Ade/Coll game, and you clearly hear the umpire say "holding - two arms wrapped around ..." when he paid the free-kick.

But not for this one:

OK, don't pay the free to Levi, it's a ruck contest, and they always wrestle. But to pay it against him, when all he's trying to do is release himself from the illegal contact ... huh? The mind boggles.

it also suggests the umpire was at the wrong side of the contest to make an accurate decision.
