Up the Gooch!

Nice to see him playing well when it really counts. :thumbsu:

We have seen his talent in many other less important tournaments, but to see him take that game into a Grand Slam is a good sign.

Can't see him getting near Simon in the second round. But funnier things have happened.
Simon is overated mate, probly the worst top 10 player for some time, if the Gooch plays like he did today he will be in the match right up to his ears.

I'll just give you the heads up mate, and I'm a Gooch fan.

Simon will kick Guccione's bottom. Straight sets victory.

Im not so sure, not many players play like Gooch does and he has an uncanny habit of surprising those who underestimate him. Remember he has beaten the likes of Byrdech, Raffa, Hewitt and while Simon is obvious a very good player i wouldn't right off the gooch yet.

Any player with a decent baseline game should beat him, he has a big serve yeah, but that's about it, always coming in to the net at the wrong times, Henman mach 2.

All Simon, or anyone else for that matter, really has to do to be able to counter the Gooch is make a decent return of serve and start the point. Once the rallies begin, Gooch will win about 30% of the points and that will be the opponents chance. Case in point, the match a few years ago with Christophe Rochus. Rochus is 5ft 5in and still managed to beat him in 5 by wearing him down.

Gooch should have his moments vs Simon, but will lose easily...

I wish people would stop saying that Gooch beat Rafa. They were on serve in the 1st set when Rafa retired injured.... Hardly the same thing as beating him..

The Gooch! Taken the first set in a Tie breaker! :D

hell of a serve! one of the best, he just drops it off at that height that makes him unreturnable, only one other player has a more dominant serve than him and thats ivo karlovic

but, he cant rally to save his life though

the odd thing is i see gucc as a one slam wonder down the track: like he might get it all working some day and he goes deep into a tournament with that serve and presence of his

the thing that does bother me about gucc's game is when he gets broken on serve its all over for him

whether its an attitude problem or unwillingness to get back into the set but he just stops competing when his serve is broken.

he was all over simon earlier today, simon had no clue to how to beat gucc because gucc was bouncing that serve at him from that height simon doesnt like

in many ways a player like simon prefers to play federer more than gucc or a karlovic because simon wouldnt be afraid that he'll be facing cobras spitting at him as much

Guccione's ground shots are really poor. When he goes for the winner 9 times out of 10 he misses. No wonder he can't break anyone.
