Thought this was cool, good indication of how we're going (sorry UTG, not about you :P):

The suns haven't had a single kick in this year that's directly led to a score

f*ck yeah!!

When someone says coast to coast, I always think of Griff's 75m roost to Foley who blasted it to Martin for an easy goal in the Hawthorn game last year.

It leads to an interesting question about Big Ben, his kicking in last year was 5th (with least attempts but he is deadly) is it worth a spot in the team if 1 in 4 or probably less of his kick ins lead to a score shot?

Doesn't mean he shouldn't improve his defensive efforts but still maybe it's about turning him more into a HB playmaker then a pure defender, I think it's the biggest area he needs to improve is making sure he makes himself free and picking up more possessions around back 50 ala Rance. He does that he becomes a very dangerous prospect and a difficult match up for a defensive forward.

Well, considering we're even better this year without him kicking in, I think the credit goes to the system rather than the player taking the kick.

As TomRoberts pointed out - the Suns haven't had a single kickin lead to a score this year, and last year they had the best player in the whole comp. It's obviously an area where tactics - both offensively and defensively - are changing all the time.

He kicked in the first match and was very good and part of why we dominated after the first 10 min.

But i agree the system is very good. My point is first how important is kicking in? And two Benny has to learn to turn himself more into a dangerous play maker across HB by getting those cheap kicks Rance and grimes get. Benny on the switch could set up so many attacking thrust and really hurt big power forwards the other way, at the moment when he plays back there he is too worried about the player he is on especially when we have the ball.

Benny G will be back...It's just that Troy, Alex and Dylan are doing so well...
He's just in the next tier of good players who will have to bide their time...
Dea, Helbig, A Edwards, O'Hanlon, even Batchelor, until someone stinks it up...
It's a really good position to be in...:thumbsu:

Unfortunately he needs to be more than a kicking in machine. Whether that involves building on his performance in the backline, learning to take hold of a game up forward, or learning the craft of ruckwork is beyond me, but he needs to be able to do one of these things to justify his place in the team.

Don't disagree with what you're saying there, but he really needs to work on his defensive game as a first priority. His spoiling is pretty ordinary (coming from his own mouth), and that needs to improve before he gets regular games.
This year I'd like to see him used to rotate rest games through the other KPBs throughout the season. 2 games for each of Rance, Chappo and Grimey would take him to 7 games for the season without any injuries. He will have time to work on his game while still getting time in the 1s.
