Can anybody update if they have heard anything on the planned redevelopment of Baytech Stadium?

I think that the First stage should be to erect some Flood Lights to play night games at Geelong .

What redevelopment ?

I don't think you'll ever see lights at Baytec Stadium. Its too expensive.

But they do have lights there. Having had my wedding reception there in the Alex Popescu reception room on Saturday following the Cats' win, there was the option for us to have the stadium lights aglow for our festivities-- and it was by all means encouraged!

And we call it Kardinia Park. ;)

Then if that's the case, upgrade them, by all means-- I was led to believe otherwise. I just wish I hadn't opted not to have had them on-- given the cost for a wedding reception, I felt that it might have been a bit of an expense that was better spent on, say, drinks for the bride, groom and their guests. :D

As for the sponsorship, something tells me that it can't be left up to Baytec's tab alone (referring to the institution, not the ever-changing name of the stadium) to upgrade any one part of the stadium. It should be an aggregate composite of all sponsorships collected.

But do we really think the Cats will draw more fans for night games than they would for day games? Just curious about this, knowing that there are pros and cons about this.

Cheers,
William

It would be unlikely for any of the sponsors to donate more money considering many of them have already paid their sponsorship dollars for next year, all part of Brian Cook's plan to fix the club. Paying their money before it was meant to be is a credit to them, but asking for more, well.... we don't want the club pushing their luck!

As for a night game, I have suggested it a while ago. It would be a good once off game. To bring in some lights and have them positioned around the ground would bring a better atmosphere at Baytec Stadium than during day games. I have no doubt that they would pack the ground, just to be a part of the first night league game at Geelong. If it was a huge success then the club could consider scheduling more night games for the ground. But for a once off, the ground would be packed.

I had my wedding reception at Baytec Stadium, and as far as I can see it looks to be in pretty good shape, the ground was immaculate on the 16th February (my wedding day).

As far as the stadium lights go, it does have ground lights which I gather are just for training. I think for the stadium to install the flood lights there would have to be a guarantee of a certain number of games to make it financially viable. Anything which gains the support and further membership of people in the city of Geelong can only help to support the club.

My humble opinion of course. :)

Checkout todays ADDY or the sports section of Geelonginfo. Theres a story on the upgrade plans.

I read the article Jub this statement concerns me

"But it is understood plans to increase Baytec Stadium's capacity from 28,000 to 35,000 have been put on hold"

Im not sure why they think increaing the capacity by 7000 will make a big difference, unless the team performs on field. But they are a very smart management team. There has to be the involvement of GFC, AFL, the local council and consultation with the state government.

It looks good for the Future though.
