Trying to chase him into the Pre-season draft perhaps?

Why would we do that? Judd's good, but he's not that good that we can afford to lose a key defender, a goalkicker, and probably Deledio.

Besides, all of Judd's work is done forward of centre. His defensive work and back-half efforts are non-existant.

Could we possible end up with hodge , judd and ball on the list next year.... i sure hope the guys that are trying to put this all together know what they are doing..... Also we need to remember hodge is out of contract, and was a big Tigers fan ( they could have 2nd pick in the preseason draft). Could he be wanting to move there?

JUDD

Agree Becker!

Priority pick plus Hay and Williams is too high a price to pay for Judd!! We have to be careful that we don't get screwed with Judd cos there is a lot of built up HYPE about him that is absolute crap! Also don't forget that his shoulders are suspect and could go on him at any time!

GO HAWKS!!

We live in interesting times ..... our club simply cannot go on making similar bad and disastrous mistakes in drafting and trading as we have done in recent years.

As I get to watch the Eagles every week I would say that the hype surrounding Judd is justified.

But every club wants him and his price is going to be high. Let all the other clubs go for him in a bidding war. I'm sure that we can pick up some good deals for players from other clubs under the radar while they all bid for Judd.

i would of thought the hawks would be trying to keep hodge first...clear indication is that he is almost 1/2 way up punt road already...and if he doesnt sign with the hawks before r22 id think hed be in richmond colors in 2005 via the preseason draft!

I am getting a vision: (cue weird music)

Backpage article....Herald Sun....30th March 2005.....Headline: Hawk recruit Judd dislocates shoulders in Training accident - To Miss the year.

Knowing our luck....all of it will happen.

We can't afford to get rid of our Full Back.

When was the last time Judds shoulders have popped or caused him any trouble??? just curious mate you seem to know everything.

cheers

Cant see Mark Robinsons' story in the HERALD SUN being any more than a filler article. West Coast could not get a better player in this or any other draft than Judd with the first pick so why swap for him? If at the end of next year Judd wanted to leave, the team that has next years priority selection would gladly hand that over for Judd anyway, and at least they would get season 2005 from him. Fanciful stuff.

Judd

Agree Mr Coombs! The Eagles don't want to deal on Judd! The article yesterday said Hawthorn told the Eagles they should deal on Judd to avoid losing him for nothing next year in the pre season draft but as Mr Coombs correctly pointed out who ever finishes last next year can offer just as good a deal as we are offering now and the Eagles will get another season out of Judd!

I reckon we concentrate on Luke ball and Polak!

PS. Just for the record Tige, Judd has had reconstructions on both shoulders just like Nick Holland. Both however were before he entered the AFL. There is always the risk however they will go again, just look at Luke Mcabe!

GO HAWKS!!

The still painful Luke McPharlin scenario makes me a little apprehensive about Buddy Franklin. The days of recruiting young players of with huge talent from the other side of the country and managing to keep them for 10 seaons seem to be dissapating by the year. Cris Connelly said as much the other day when he made the point that this "Go home" factor meant that the Dockers where far more hesitant to take a kid from outside WA than they would have been in the past. Blokes like Stevens, McPharlin, Simmons, Headland and others have shown youngsters that there is always a way back home if you get the right manager. Franklin has already stated that his preference is to stay in Perth. This comment should be taken very seriously at Draft time.

Yes, but in the McPharlin instance, Freo were in a very strong bargaining position.

-Only one other team to contend with, as opposed to nine.
-Last position on the ladder.
-Significant cap space.
-Player already leaving regardless.

Melbourne were in exactly the same position with Farmer. Freo bent both of us over...

I don't see either Freo or West Coast being in such as strong position in the short/medium term, both have excellent young sides.

If Franklin were the best available i wouldn't question taking him. Lucky for us Deledio is a standout and we shouldn't have that dilemma, regardless...

Hodgey you are right about West Coast and Freo not being in a strong trade position in the near future given the strength of their lists. However as we know, finishing positions on the ladder and draft selection numbers are a very negotiable process. My nightmare is taking Franklin with a very high pick, watching him develop into a potential superstar and then seeing West Coast or the Dockers trade one or two players to the bottom club for 1st pick in the pre season draft. Armed with that they could easily convince a homesick Frankilin to come home. I dont reckon it is worth it.

Interesting...is it possible to trade pre-season picks though?

What is the ruling on pre season trading? I may have been wrong about swapping players for picks in the pre season draft. There are a raft of ways to get around the rules anyway. Look at the Rawlings/Veale/Jacobs/Alvey concoction.

Well we are 95% certain of having the number 1 pick, so we are in the box seat. If a player didnt want to come to Hawthorn, yet we offered the opposing club a good deal, what they could do is just not re-sign him or trade him and that would mean he'd be let through to the PSD for us to pick him up. It would basically be the same as a normal trade but we lose our PSD number 1 pick advantage.

Simmonds is a victorian.

I would hope the club doesn't trade away our first 2 picks, that's if we get a priority pick. I'd like to see the club get 2 young guns and build a team, get a senior player in the pre-season draft or trade the 2nd pick (around pick 19 or 20) but please keep the first 2 picks!!!!

Why would the Hawks trade their first two picks? If they could get Ball, he'd probably be better than what they could get at pick 4.

that's why you leave those type of deals to the very last min(s), at worst we end up with the player for free (player doesn't re-sign with original club) or we dont get him at all (re-signs with club)
