Anyone else a fan of them back in the day? They probably peaked about 1972-74 and plummeted after 1976 when Ken Hensley left the band. At their peak they were up there with Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin in popularity and style, selling 30 or so million albums in the 70s.

Anyway I saw they're touring next March/April and I'm trying to work out whether to spend $90 of my hard earned cash on the show. I probably won't bother - the only name in the current linup I recognise is Mick Box - as I suspect I'd be severly disappointed.

I'm sitting here listening to "Demons and Wizards" (1972). It's still a great album but it makes me laugh that Uriah Heep were what passed for Heavy Metal at the time.

Excellent band. 'Demons and Wizards' is a great album. This was before 'heavy metal' lost any sense of melody, and eschewed any element of drama, by trying to make everything dramatic. Light and shade went out the window, which was a change from them coming in the window.

Edit: In honour of your equally excellent post, I'm currently playing my vinyl copy of 'Demons and Wizards'. It won't surprise some on here to know it's in pristine condition, after 38 years. Amazing, given the thrashing it's had.

Further edit: Re: booking to see them - if they are competent and play the songs you know, it might not be such a disaster. However, I'm a bit offput by an experience I had this week. I booked to see 'The Turtles' and 'Three Dog Night' in a combined concert at the Palais, in St Kilda, on 20th November. All was well until I received an email telling me the concert had been cancelled due to, "unforeseen circumstances". This is particularly disappointing as my ex-missus and I, who haven't lived together for 23 years, were going to the concert together - our first date in... I don't know how long. She was a 'Turtles' devotee. I was probably the only person on the planet who knew that, which is why I suggested it. I suppose I'll have to think of another way to get her into ...oops.

Yeah was a bit of a fan. Knocked around with a guy in Darwin in '73 who played in a Heeps cover group.

Man there was a few demons and wizards around in NT and NQ in those days. Depending whether your poison was mushies or trips or both together

Ken Hensley died over the weekend. Since Lee Kerslake died a few months ago, the only surviving member of the "classic" Heep lineup (David Byron, Mick Box, Hensley, Gary Thain and Kerslake) is Box.
