Just wondering if anyone has had any positive experiences with particular banks in terms of depositing US dollars with low fees to exchange the currency? I'm looking into a few different places but if anyone has particular knowledge that'd be great.

I got a $60 cheque from the US once and converted it at the Comm bank, they ripped me of $20, which I think is their standard conversion fee for any cheque of any amount.

HSBC would probably be the best international bank though...not sure I understood your question but ah well :)

Sorry, not this black duck. :thumbsd:

I assume you are referring to banks in Aus.... I found I got a significantly better deal (like 1c difference on the rate) buying AUS$ in the HSBC in HCMC (Saigon) of all places than I cound get in any back in Aus. Go figure. Not so long ago Commonwealth sent me out the door with a month's worth of US$ (about $100 after alcohol and expenses) becuase I didn't have an account with them.

Oh, and please sell all your AUS$ and send it down to 50c again :D

we got reamed with some UK cheques a few months ago.

We are going to look into money transfers eg through Western Union and see if you lose any less in fees... but then that only helps people we are sending cash to:)

You should try changing Scottish bank notes:)
