He loves the work "barrack" - I reckon "pulling" for your team is waaaaaaaay cooler!! :D

If only John Isner was born in Australia.

At 2.06m tall, with good overhead ball skills and the remarkable stamina to be able to run for more than 11 hours, AFL talent scouts would have drooled over the American as a teenager.
...

And he proudly pledges that he is a Docker.

While representing the US in the Hopman Cup at the Burswood Dome, Isner revealed his passion for AFL and displayed an extraordinary amount of knowledge on Fremantle for someone who has never seen the purple live in action.

Go Big John. Think I have a new favourite tennis player. :thumbsu:

Surprising the number of US athletes and sports fans who know about Aussie Rules. When I lived there most serious fans were at least aware of the game and some knew a lot more. ESPN has been broadcasting some VFL/AFL since at least the mid-Eighties when I first went to the States.

Isner seems like a top bloke - hopefully he can make a name for himself apart from the marathon match:)

:thumbsu:Surely someone from the club has got to make him a member and present him with a jumper!!!!

Should go one step further I reckon... I noticed in the yearbook we have an International Member/ticket holder... I think 2010 was that female tennis player from UK??

He is as good as any to be our International member for 2011.:thumbsu:

Saw his interview with Anthony Hudson after his match last night, even said he knows there's someone in the league the same height as him after revealing he's a Docker :thumbsu:

Unfortunately, it didn't seem like he knew it was Sandi and Hudson didn't point that out for some reason... seems like something he would know?

70 to 68 in the fifth set!! Holy shit

Was pretty epic, served something ridiculous like 120+ aces but in his next game the day after he got smashed, didn't hit a single ace either (against some lowly Dutch player).

He must have been rooted (which is better than pulling or barracking IMO).

Yeah Laura Robson is a big time Freo fan - even though she was born in Melbourne

Seeing her and Andy Murray tonight at the Hopman cup which should be good - they were both good last year as well

Good to see we are expanding within Perth, our state, nationally and internationally :D

Now some cups please

I've pulled for Ana Ivanovic a few times.

I chuckled. But it's good to see an abundance of international sport stars pledging their allegiance to this good club of ours. I certainly wouldn't mind having Isner as a back up for Sandi.

Just home from the Hopman Cup final. Notable for 2 reasons:

  • saw my first media cap with the new logo etc. They look really good in the flesh (much better than the photo's). I'm getting one real soon;
  • like IP, I'll be following Isner's career with interest from this point forward. He's quite a joker - last night came out for an exhibition doubles in the Frenchwoman's dress!
Having seen Isner live, we must make sure no-one ever puts a tennis racquet in Sandi's hand. Its amazing what serving devastation can be produced from a 7 foot giant with remarkable hand/eye co-ordination and ball skills.

Pretty sure that was the Frenchman Mahut who frocked up last night. Doubt there is a dress in existence that would fit Isner.
