I don't like Trump but he's been democratically elected as leader, so stop your bitching and work out how to make the best of it.

* I've had a gutful of these BS protest marches, etc. They're basically saying they want a democratic society, but want to moan when the result doesn't go their way!
** I don't support Trump and he's most likely an incompetent buffoon!

And work out how to beat him. Start by finding a good candidate this time.

They'll have up to four years to get that one right (if he doesn't get impeached first). I still bet they balls it up!
I also wouldn't be surprised if the domestic results he delivers are relatively positive (in terms of jobs, economy) whereas I'm expecting his international diplomacy to be a complete cluster!

"I don't like Trump, but"...can you imagine the uproar if Trump lost and openly sought to 'agitate' 'protest' 'boycott' 'death threat' a Clinton inauguration?

Clinton was a corrupt pay to play liar, and the anarchists that claim moral superiority have, since the election, outright proven that power should be withheld at all costs and the 'right' side got in.

As i said, an online poll claimed i am 'left', but seeing the actions of 'the left' the last thing i want to do is associate myself with them. so thats one less vote from me, being a once Greens and labour voter.

Highly questionable, if you ask me. For a start, I can place an ad offering someone $100,000 a week to do star jumps but it doesn't mean it is going to happen. Also, where is the money coming from? Two and a half grand a month plus fifty bucks an hour? Just doesn't pass the sniff test to me.

Had a better chance at winning the general than the primaries, I'll give you that.

Bernie Sanders is a socialist. Socialism has never produced a prosperous society. Everywhere it has been tried it has failed and everywhere it has been REALLY tried it has resulted in the deaths of countless innocent people.

Bernie Sanders seems like a nice enough guy, but his socialist ideology has been proved, over and again, to be dangerous.

Drinking game: skol a shot everytime someone says "I don't like Trump but" before going on to vehemently defend him/his policies.

I'm not sure why you'd make fun of a person with the sense to differentiate between Trump and his policies.

If more Americans had been smart enough to say "I like Obama but" they wouldn't have wasted eight years on a super nice guy whose policies have made America worse off by many measures.

Do we need microscopes now to read your words of wisdom?

Sanders isn’t a socialist. He calls himself a democratic socialist, which in itself is a departure from socialism, but in reality he is more of a social democrat, which is clear by his policy direction. Think more Norway, Sweden or Denmark than Cuba, USSR or Albania.

Bernie’s decision to label himself a democratic socialist probably didn’t do him any favours given the propensity for the US culture/media to totally freak out when the word socialist is used in their dialogue given it is for the most part interchangeable with communist. Then the discussion becomes focussed on that and not on policy. And I guess this is demonstrated by your post given the clearly inaccurate label you have ascribed to him.

Policy wise Sanders certainly had social benefit as a main priority. Free Higher Education (like Australia up until 20 or so years ago, Scandinavia, Brazil, France, Germany), universal health care (like Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, most of Europe, Canada, Japan, Mongolia, Thailand etc.) and other social welfare safety nets to ensure that those with the least means can access services that can assist them in improving their lot were high in his agenda. These are not purely socialist policies that can only occur in a socialist society, but to many they are core responsibilities of a mature democratic government.

Unfortunately for the people of the US, these policies seem like a vile communist plot to overthrow the American way of life, which in comparison is far more dog eat dog. Which in a country with a growing poor population and an ever widening gap between the rich and poor leaves vacant ground for dissent, violence, disassociation from society and the ascribing of societal problems to minority groups to grow. And it is here where the twisted weed of the Cult of the Donald has grown.

At least with Sanders you could see what he wanted to do to improve the lot of the majority. Sure some of it would have been very hard to pass through congress given the vested interests in play, but at least his intent was to try to create a society where a poor person with cancer would get the necessary treatment, rather than be told that there is no care available because they don’t have the money to pay for the meds. At least he wanted to create an education system where those who have the capacity to educate themselves and be productive parts of a growing society can do so without the burden of crippling debt.

With Donald all you get is dog-whistling. A space where Drain the Swamp turns out to be ‘populate my cabinet with rich dudes with vested interests’. Where speaking a lot without saying much is commonplace. Where belittling people on social media is more important than providing millions with health care. And this comes back to the reason why the majority of Trump supporters (and probably Americans to be fair) think Sanders is a socialist. Its because the shouting and slogans and pomp have impact, which then detracts from the issues that require actual debate. Hence, Sanders = Socialist!!, which therefor = communist, which therefor = threat to American values.

Only other thing I'd add are his major policies of removing big money political lobbying and taking on Wall St/banking reform.

Oh what could have been...

Indeed.

And again, these approaches aren't socialist but the essence of democratic.
