That's good to hear re: the market, added that to my list of things to do in Philly. I'm only there one day though unfortunately.

Market, Rocky statue/steps, what else would be do-able in a day?

Penn's Landing and the Delaware river is a nice walk if it's a nice day - Liberty Bell and Independence Hall for a quick look

Pat's & Geno's cheese steak corner. Walking towards it down 9th st you will recognize as the spot in Rocky where he runs past all the Italian markets. Although the Hispanics have taken over most the area now.

starting to plan out my wedding trip in 2025. looking to spend 8 weeks over there.

just want to garner thoughts on travelling amtrak across the country? looking at a 2 bed sleeper either from LA or san fran to chicago. recommendations?

That wouldn't be a good idea. Amtrak is routinely delayed since commercial freight gets right of way on the tracks. If you were to take a train in any part of the country, use the Northeast Corridor. You can hit 5 cities on one line (Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC).

The Art Museum is great, Love City Brewery and Crime and Punishment Brewery are making some of my favorite beer there. I'm more partial to the Roast Pork sandwich in Philadelphia and John's Roast Pork is a classic, but if you want a cheesesteak, Angelo's and D'Alessandros are my favorite. If you do go to Angelo's don't sleep on the pizza there too, it's awesome. If there's a sports team in town, I'd check out a game. If you want to check out a more historic site, Independence Hall is easily accessible.

Also if you're going when it's hot out you kind of have to go here.

What'd you think? Favorite cities?

DC is still my favourite city to visit - Pittsburgh was really nice too with all the bridges and rivers

Nashville would be 2nd favourite city ever - even though i'm not real into country music the hospitality and food and drink are awesome

DC reminds me of Canberra but way nicer. Clean - Smithsonians and zoos are free. Arlington Cemetery. White House. Congress. The history. Excellent public transport.

I've never had an issue with Amtrak but i've only used it going from state to state and not a big day/night trip.

I'll be using it from Indy>Chicago and Wash/Philly/NY, do suitcases usually fit in overhead luggage space? Want to be able to keep an eye on my s**t

There is space for overhead luggage, if it’s too big it might not fit but there are luggage racks at both ends of each carriage also. Amtrak is safe, it’s too expensive for any shady folk or petty crims, they’re all on the greyhound.

If you book in advance, Amtrak can be surprising cheap. New York to Washington in Coach Class was $30USD for me. Just under 4 hour train ride.

Flight including waiting time for check in/boarding is 2 hours but you pay minimum $250USD.

Free wifi on board so you can easily kill additional travel time by watching a couple of movies, reading a book.

Someone mentioned Orlando magic tix a few weeks ago. This is what dropped yesterday and what I used last year to get $40 tickets

We loved it too . Was a bit of a suprise as I had low expectations .

Our friends had a bad experience though , mugged on there first day . There were staying on the outskirts though and it can happen anywhere really .

I stayed in Takoma this time near Silver Springs as it was closer to the zoo (didn't want to miss the baby panda or baby elephant)

Public transport still made it easier to get Downtown and to all the Smithsonians, White House, Lincoln Memorial etc and Arlington Cemetery

I’ve run the Marine Corp Marathon in DC a few times (running it again in 10 weeks time) which is an amazing way to see the city and sights. So I usually stay in Arlington Virginia across the river (which is where the run starts and ends), much cheaper than DC proper, Reagan airport is right there and it’s only 15 minutes Metro ride into central DC.can never get bored in DC, highly recommend the Museum of African American culture for anyone visiting, simply stunning museum. Smithsonian Air and Space is also one of my all time favourites.

Hey all,

So I am just in the process of trying to plan the first leg of my trip to the States in Jan. Never been before so its all new.
Flying into LA in the 3rd week of Jan, and was looking so spend just a couple of days like 3-4 max there before moving around a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should be looking to stay?
Family trip? If so, highly recommend The Magic Castle Hotel. We spent 9 nights in LA, back in 2017, and though we didn't like it as much as NYC, still had a great time. We found it much harder to get around, compared to the amazing transport system in NY, so relied on Uber most of the time.

Will be in California next month. Will miss the NBA opening season but there are some pre-season games I would like to see plus NFL in LA.

Whats everyones experiences with best web page to purchase tickets through? So far i have looked at seatgeek and stubhub. Any others?

Cheapest / most reliable would be great.

Ticketmaster are the official seller for NFL. You will find prices on the aftermarket pretty much the same from all sites.

LA tickets are generally the cheapest going around for NFL and shouldn't cost that much.
