Im keen to get one for my macbook, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I'd probably recommend a Telstra one (Devil takes soul) just to get the most coverage.

Been thinking of it myself lately.

As far as prepaid goes it seems anything running on the optus network is the cheapest, but you still pay like $50 for 3GB's of data, and you can get those $79 modems from Crazy John's. seems to be the best deal as far as I can tell.

I have an Optus one that cost $149 up front and then 2 yr contract 6Gb/month for $49.95.

Also have a Telstra one, same price, prepaid. $100/month for the same data.

the Telstra one has by far the better coverage but i feel dirty using it.

they can be surprisingly fast

Telstra (prepaid) rates seem good if you spend big, but pretty shitty for the lower rates.

$50 only gets you 625MB

LOL :rolleyes:

ere are some examples to help you choose how much you recharge:

Recharge $30 and you could7

* do 15 Google searches,
* check your email 11 times and
* visit Myspace 8 times.

Recharge $60 and you could7

* do 40 Google searches,
* check your email 33 times and
* visit Myspace 50 times.

Recharge $100 and you could7

* do 100 Google searches,
* download 200 tracks and
* visit Myspace 400 times.

I'm with 3. $0 up front on 2 year contract, $39 for 6GB a month, first 6 months @ $19.95.

I have never had a problem with coverage but I live in the inner east so...

Bump

This is the one i got, any idea of whats good value for money, how much should i recharge?

I had a 12 month contract with Telstra at 1 gig for $49.95 a month from the end of 07. Went looking for a new one but couldn't find a deal worth taking (either poor coverage or bs prices) Telstra even offered me a 3 year deal for 1 gb download at $59.95... wait they went up in price?

Ended up getting Vodafone 5gb $39.95 last month. Got some ok coverage, decent d/l speed. Good value and only stick you on a 24 month plan.

Avoid Telstra they mess you around something chronic on top of their dipsht prices :p

telstra is obviously the best in terms of speed, coverage and reliability.

however, it is the most expensive. if you use it in metro melbourne, you can get away with a three or optus one (voda probably has the worst coverage)

if you head too much outside the metro area, you're ****ed unless you have a telstra one. but since you have a telstra one already, it's a moot point.

i'm always happy to pay a bit more for reliability and coverage. i think you made the right choice.

I've got 3 Mobile Internet. 6GB for $39.95 a month.

Not bad stuff, the speed does vary from fairly fast to sometimes annoyingly slow but overall it works well enough and is certainly very convenient too.

I've got Virgin Broadband and it's similar - usually slows down at the start and end of the month, without my having exceeded the limit. It's 5GB for $39.95.

BTW, I get really bad pinging with my Virgin Broadband - often about 200ms. Is this something that's normal for USB internet?

Mines up around that. Just did a test now...237ms.
