an article in todays diamond valley leader says the vafa is looking to relocate to olympic park. couldnt find the article on the leader web site but it went a little like this

Mr Bourke said Elsternwick Park had become "outdated" and said the costs involved in upgrading it would be between $2-$3 million.
"(Relocating to Olympic Park)would require a minimum investment as the Collingwood Football Club and the Victorian Government would cover most of the costs"

If this is a done deal, does this mean the end of Elsternwick Park as a finals venue? Hopefully...

A & B Grade finals should be at Trevor Barker Oval or will an Olympic Park ground be HQ from now on?

I believe that Collingwood FC's plans are to turn the current athletics track into a football ground, which is possible as Athletics Victoria are planning on moving to Bob Jane Stadium at Albert Park where a new athletics track will be built.

Therefore surely both A & B grade finals series will be held at Olympic Park.

If this does happen the new VAFA facilities will be top notch and rival some AFL clubs.

Why wouldn't Linton Street Oval, Moorabbin be a chance when St Kilda move to Seaford. Has Offices, Stands (run down) Scorebord and has recently been resurfaced

I'd say it's an OH&S issue.. you can't have games there and make ppl pay $$ to sit in stands with rusty nails sticking out of them... I doubt the council will chip in any money for such small fry as the VAFA.. well not enough to fix anything down at Moorabbin anyway..

great place to train/play.. horrid place to have spectators etc..

Didn't know about that Wamba... Good to hear.. maybe this ground out at olympic park could be a goer.. except everything will then be at the mercy of Collingwood and the AFL.. If Collingwood want the ground for training during the year and especially finals, they would easily kick us off even if there may be a game scheduled... thats the main problem with sharing a ground with a league superior to the VAFA..

the a & b finals should be at this ground anyway - a superb surface to play on & excellent facilities for spectators.

the c grade finals played there this year were a treat to watch & im sure the players appreciated a superb surface to run around on.

the scores reflected the quality of football played...

The Southern Football League reckon they've got Linton Street stitched up when the Saints vacate.

this it true and a smart move its a long way to walk from the lexus centre to goshes paddock oval number 2 with or with out boots on.

Think it would be a good idea but no parking could be a problam if they want 8k ppl to an a grade grand final

The Storm are sharing the new purpose built stadium with the Victory.

Storm now train at Princess/MC labour so no drama with them bro.

Trevor Barker too small, and the surface ain't that flash. Arden St's the go, Kangas, MCC, AFL and the Feds all kicking in. A couple of extra dollars from VAFA and you'll have great facilities to go with the best surface to play on excluding Bulleen road (Trinity, Marcellin, Carey).

Central for almost all clubs too!

Elsternwick Park (Sportscover Arena) is well past its use-by date. I reckon the VAFA Board's decision to leave Elsternwick Park was not well received by several Board members. But the B & A Section Grand Finals (regardless of the results) rammed home to the VAFA Board why it's time to move to a new home. In the '70s & '80s Elsternwick Park was seen as the hub of VAFA football. Clubs in those days saw as a prestige & a honour to play at VAFA HQ, showcasing its playing talents and also the game itself would be given 'Match of the Day' status, regardless of what section they were in and where they were positioned on the ladder. Now ask those clubs 30 years later if they like to play at Elsternwick Park, and the message would be one of 'thanks, but no thanks.'

Thats all well and good but did you unappoint Killer after he was re-apopointed?

You have successfully dodged this question for several weeks now.

If nothing dodgy has gone on why the avoidence??

Story has it you , as a new president reacted to a few players concerns and sacked an already re-appointed coach?.

Central for most clubs except those in the outer South East (SFX, South Morn, Peninsula....), Better location for Mt Lilydale, Rupo, O Parade, Latrobe, OEG, Werribee... I could go on and not a huge change for the inner clubs of which I'll include Ormond amongst SKOB, Richmond Central, Albert Park, Old Xavs ....the list goes on.
The playing surface is fantastic but you're right the surrounds are rubbish, hence the plans for a $7-$10 million rebuild. I had a kick on Sandy on U19 GF day and thought it was acceptable but not a showpiece ground although it has a great atmosphere when a decent crowd turns up.
The point is that the Head Quarter ground for the comp should be of an AFL standard, the new Olympic Park will fit the bill, I was mearly throwing up what I believe to be another viable alternative.

Payroll? I wish!

Not sure how attractive it will be for supporters. It's difficult enough finding somewhere to park with the ever increasing parking restrictions in the area without factoring in games at the 'G'. It would be a challenge I doubt I'd be bothered taking on. Not to mention the soccer factor with Victory being part of the mix.
