The players for the VAFA will be teams from C section to D4.

I was going to say there was a fair bit of difference in standard with VAFA vs SFL but i guess that evens it up slightly.

The VAFA have won the past couple games against the SFL.

How strong would the VAFA be if used only players from A and B Grade only.

Personally i dont think the VAFA is that strong of a comp. Its Local footy after all the same as any other comp

A grade VAFA is an extremely high level of footy. You have to go and watch the best sides to realise.

The VAFA rep side will have 6 odd A and B grade players, who will make a bit of difference. The lower grades have some very handy acquisitions this year, but the likes of David Loats, Richard Taylor (both Old Camberwell) and Daniel Harford (Old Paradians) were not selected in the squad, or chose not to take someone else's spot.

Likewise, I'm sure the big $$$ players from the SFL will probably enjoy a week off as well!!

Always a tight game, but never presume it's an accurate reflection of the relative strengths of the competitions.

The senior VAFA rep side, including a few guns from below A & B grade, will play a VCFL combined unit in 5 weeks' time. I've just seen the VCFL side and there are that many ex-AFL/VFL guns not selected that you can see it's really held out as a reward for most loyal bush footy players to wear a rep jumper.

Some ex AFL players prefer to not play in those sides so that the locals get a chance to play Rep footy. Even in the VFL Adrian Fletcher who killed the comp in 2003 gave up his spot in the Vic side to a younger player because they deserve a go. Im sure a few players feel the same

Ive never rated the SFL standard of footy that highly. VAFA would kill them I reckon if a third of their side is from A and B grade

I have and I see no difference between VAFA A Section and other A grades local football. All the same for me.

Went down this morning and watched this game, ********ty conditions led to an ugly, ugly game for 3 quarters, in the final term however, when things started to dry up the south side were able to utilize their runners and provide a solid contest

Note: The north side was ALOT bigger, looked more organised and had greater leaders than the south side and the north side looked condsiderably more suited to the conditions despite their size and bulk.

pete is an out and out freak, he's 6 foot 3, skinny as F*** and takes a great mark every week, holds down CHB for us, gets thrown into the ruck when needed and won the grand final last year off his own back taking pack marks and one handed grabs in the mud - all this while not ever looking like a footy player!

Yeah, that would be a pretty even matchup. Doesn't the EFL usually play the DVFL though?

EFL didn't have interleague at all this year apparantly. I think the EFL have offered a game against VAFA but the ammos have knocked them back. Probably worried they might get a run for there money or maybe even knocked off.

It's players from the southern teams in the VAFA, from A grade down.

Er - no, it's the players from C-D4 plus 5 A/B grade players because the SFL refused to play the match unless there was top grade involvement.

Consider:

Andy Cultrera - Old Trinity (Bulleen)
Glenn Porteous - Old Paradians (Bundoora)
Brad Wilmore - Banyule (Heidelberg)
Mark Paterson - Uni Blues (Carlton)
Bryce Shaw - Uni Blacks (Carlton)

All north of town, but played in the match.

Were it A & B grade sides from southern clubs, as you suggest, why weren't there any blokes from Xavs (Prahran), Scotch (Camberwell), St Kevins (Toorak), Collegians/OMs (Albert Park), Haileybury (McKinnon), Brighton, possibly even Mazenod & St Bedes?

The last few years it's been the southern based players so they must have changed it.
