Australian guitarist Harvey James passed away from lung cancer last night at the age of 58.

In the early 70s he played with Mississippi and Ariel before getting his big break by joining Sherbet in 1976.

He left Sherbet in 1982 and played with various bands and artists in the ensuing years. He last played, although very unwell, at a benefit organized for him in Melbourne last November.

Not only was he a great guitarist, he was a terrific guy. He joins the ranks of the Aussie musicians who have left us far too early.

RIP.

Thats me dad.

Was an avid catters supporter and so happyhe got to see the 2 premierships he waited so long for. Was a special moment in my life to share that with him.

That he was your dad, and that you are part of the BF community is significant. He had great taste in the bands he joined - all of them legendary. Seriously musical, all of them, as was he. You must be very proud.

Edit: 'Mississippi' was among the most underrated bands in the history of Aussie music. You didn't get a gig in that company unless you were something very special. It was at this point that Aussie bands started to prove themselves the equal of any.

Second Edit: I know for a fact that Graeham Goble rates what he did with 'Mississipi' among his finest work, despite his involvement with 'The Little River Band'.

Thanks mate.

couldnt be any more proud of him. Not bad for an english migrant to migrate to australia and make the most of himself in the field he loves.

Dad was very picky of who he played with, and has left behind a great repertoire for himself and playing in his honour with Sherbet last february to a packed enmore theatre who were all there in his honour was the most amazing thing to witness. The support we have received since he passed is simply amazing.

So heartwarming to read that hes so respected, even on a football forum.

Trying to collect all his releases, gonna take me quite some time!

Cheers

Gabe.
