The AFL has lost a true champion, as has Australia and the world at large.
He was a great footballer, a true sport and a gentleman. His legacy should be an inspiration to us all. We are all poorer for his passing and I send my condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Vale Jim Steins

Jim Stynes was a trail blazer in many ways and was loved by many people for his work and character on and off the field.

He will be sorely missed.

Condolences to his family and the Melbourne Footy Club.

Re: Vale Jim Steins

Whilst I agree with your sentiments his name is spelt Stynes.
My bad, I thought that it looked wrong. I just got home from work actually expecting to find a thread already going, so I just got it going straight away. Also I'm a Pies supporter so according to the stereotype I should be illiterate, which means nobody expects much from my spelling anyway.:)

Thanks for the correction mate, I just wish that the mod who changed it in the thread title had done so before the other posts wound up with the bad spelling in their posts. Not criticizing, just saying. No offense to the mods it was my ****-up, I know.

Re: Vale Jim Stynes

Already posted on the Melb board Jimmy leaves a void behind that won't be filled, some people are one off originals.

Condolences to his family and friends and of course the MFC and the football world a large.

RIP Jimmy.

you are a true legend to the game. You've proven that anyone in the world can play AFL and your legacy will continue on and on and spread the game around the world, one day, thanks to you. Condolences to your family and the MFC.

Goodbye legend, you will be missed.

My wife and I sat next to Jim and Sam at the pies cats pre lim a few years ago when we lost by a goal. He didn't know then and was that bloody nice. Didn't know us from a bar of soap but laughed and talked to us all night, his wife Sam was a pies supporter. Then he was announced president a few weeks later and then his illness hit him. Has hit me hard since then. You got to sit back and look at life from the outside as often as you can.

I'm not one for sloppy sentimentalism, but he was a fantastic, generous hearted man who looked beyond himself, a manly commodity.

If we had a million of his kind, the world could really be fantastic.

A really touching and emblematic comment I discovered today was that he packed away his clothes before he died so his partner would be spared that heartbreak. Thats a beautiful man.

didnt take the news particularly well today i must admit, which is to be expected when youve experienced something similar a little closer to home..

many years ago now, Jim came down to my school and gave a talk about achieving to the best of your potential and about looking out for your fellow man. those words have stuck with me to this very day

his determination and fight was truly inspirational and his legacy will live on

R.I.P Jim Stynes, you will be missed

An old team mate from the Dublin All Ireland winning Minor team of 1984 ws on Irish TV tonight - they had a reunion not so long ago but Jim could not come but was linked up on Skype and produced his Jersey from 1984 and asked how many others could still fit into their jerseys - What a man - rest in peace
