That's a shame.

Watching the news this morning, geez reporting a celebrities death these days is easy. Just cross to someone in said celebrities country, read out some tweets. Job done.

Just saw an interview with him, looked like he was mid 60's, when he said he had given up smoking 20 years ago, the ****ing things still got him in the end but who knows how many extra years he got by quitting when he did.

Been 18 years since I quit & stuff like this just another reminder that I have at least made one sensible decision in my life;)

"He was higher than Joe Cocker"

This is a thing I wrote on these boards twelve years ago, in a thread about the best concerts I'd ever attended:

Finally, and most emotionally, I saw Joe Cocker perform at Festering Hole, the day after he was busted in Adelaide for drugs. He came on stage about an hour late and proceeded to get absolutely legless, as he drank a bottle of Johnny Walker. They sort of assisted him off the stage. To fill time, those wonderful three black, female singers from "Little Help From my Friends" performed. After about an hour, Cocker reappeared and did two hours of the raunchiest, tightest rock and roll you've ever heard. Turned disaster into triumph. He is another of the great survivors.

I have subsequently found out that this concert actually happened four days after his bust in Adelaide. There's a surprise, I was wrong.

He was the best seller of songs I've ever heard, after Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin. That he survived this long is extraordinary. That he was still doing full-blown concerts a year ago is unbelievable. His version of A Little Help from My Friends is surely the best Beatles cover ever, if not the best cover ever. The Nation Review, a contemporary, weekly newspaper, nominated him the artist most likely to be found dead in a hotel room, due to a drug overdose. What did they know?

yeah, obviously like most if not all of those old time rockers still around or recently deceased, he cleaned his act up bigtime probably around 40. They bred them tough though, one of my fav's Gerry Raffertly, was basically a full blown alky most of his adult life and managed to get to his mid 60's before falling of the perch. & how some of the Rolling Stones members are still going around has to be a testament to modern medicine;)

Guy suffered depression (drug use and poor diet probably) he reckoned everyone manipulates you when you're down.

Something important that should be remembered.
