Vale John Hyde

R.I.P. John Hyde, a huge part of those all-conquering Geelong sides of the early 1950s.

Like quite a few of those dominant 1951-52 players, his career at Geelong was relatively short-stayed at just 108 games. Hyde moved on to the WAFL before his 25th birthday, presumably to earn a quid from playing the game he loved - yet he still managed to chalk up a B&F at the age of 20 with the Cats, and if retrospective Norm Smith's were ever awarded he'd likely have one on his resume.
By all accounts a ruthless and athletic player and a key pillar in arguably the club's greatest streak of footballing dominance.
